“That’s not what Hyland told me when he came running in here, claiming his innocence had been ruined.”

I snorted at that, which made the headmaster raise a questioning brow at me. “You find that funny?”

“A little yes,” I admitted. “We were resting in the tub, glad to be spending some time together and I can say with full honesty that no hands were touching any dicks and no dicks were inside anything.”

Casey was doing his best not to laugh as I said that as seriously as I could. I wasn’t about to get into trouble because of Hyland the Jerk.

Our headmaster seemed to fight the tight control he held over his mask of indifference. “Your words sadly don’t mean much to me, as lies can easily be spread. You wouldn’t mind taking a truth serum for me, would you?”

I shook my head, already familiar with how that serum worked, my father having made some himself for interrogation purposes. “I’m fine drinking a drop, I’m not comfortable with more than that though.”

“One drop will be just fine. It should only be in effect for thirty minutes and I’ll allow you to remain in my office until it passes. I have some things I need to check up on anyway,” the headmaster assured me. I knew the more potent potions couldlast hours if not days before it passed through your system and I wasn’t about to tell everyone in the academy about my deepest and darkest secrets. I was fine with Casey knowing, though.

Wren rose from his chair and perused his shelves, picking out a bottle with the familiar black color. He then placed a single drop on a porcelain spoon, handing it over to me. I took the spoon, sucking the tiny drop into my mouth and swallowed.

“Good,” he said, returning to his chair. “Now just to check if it worked. Have you ever stolen something from your parents?”

“Yes,” I replied instantly, not even embarrassed by it. Who hadn’t stolen something? My clearest memory was of my father, Luka, eating a piece of cake that I wanted. I’d been around four and had taken the cake like I would’ve died if I hadn’t. No regrets, it was delicious. If only the frosting hadn’t given me away.

“Okay, now tell me, did you and Casey do any sexual acts in the bathtub when Hyland came in and spotted you?” I was glad he’d phrased it like that, making sure it didn’t involve before or after, or another time in the tub. He’d given me plenty of options for my truth to become clear.

“No,” I replied firmly, making the headmaster smile.

“I’ll make sure to bring Hyland back in here and have him drink the same truth serum. I think it would be educational for me to know what he deemed had ruined his innocence.” He then waved us goodbye before leaving his office. We sat in silence and I couldn’t figure out if it was because Casey feared I didn’t want to talk while having the truth serum in effect, or if he simply didn’t have anything to say.

“Talk to me,” I said, bumping his shoulder playfully.

He laughed softly. “I can’t believe Hyland saw us in the tub.”

“He didn’t see much,” I reminded him.

“Enough,apparently, to “ruin” his innocence.”

I snorted. “He’s a jerk and will do anything to mess with us, it seems.”

Casey seemed pleased by my words. “It’s nice knowing you truly think of him as a jerk.”

“I do,” I smiled back. If he felt better knowing I disliked Hylan and it being the absolute truth, then so be it. “You know you can ask me anything you want now right? I have nothing to hide from you, and if knowing what I tell you is the complete truth will help you in any way, then please just ask.”

He bit his bottom lip, likely contemplating something. “Well, there is one thing I wish to know your truth about.”

“Ask me.”

“What do you prefer,sexually?”

“Like positions?”

He laughed. “More like, do you prefer to be taken or doing the taking?”

“Oh, I prefer to do the taking,” I said, not elaborating or anything. I had no idea what Casey preferred but The Magic wouldn’t have chosen us as mates if we weren’t compatible.

Casey sighed in relief. “You know, I’d asked Harpy that exact same question once and he’d told me he preferred both. I hadn’t known it to be a lie until he told me a few days ago. There had been a misunderstanding between us. He’d said he preferred to be taken and I’d understood it as he still liked taking me. I didn’t want that to happen to you and me.”

“And that was why you needed my full honesty on the subject,” I said, feeling lighter now that I knew I’d helped Casey in some way. It had clearly been something he’d feared asking me about.

“Yes,” he whispered, looking down at his thighs.

“I told you to ask me, sweetheart. I don’t mind talking to you while affected. I’ll never lie to you anyway.”
