‘Are … are you seeing anyone?’ Her hesitation is palpable.

I frown at the question. Every other woman pales in comparison to her. All I can ever see, all I can ever feel, is her.

‘No,’ I say, but when the silence continues, it’s clear that ‘no’ is not a complete sentence today. ‘I had a great girl once. She tasted like sweet fucking lemons.’

‘Then you left her.’

She spins around, but I wrap my hands around her waist and bring her back in, locking my eyes with hers, brown and blue colliding like a war between water and earth.

‘You’ve never left me.’ The words come out of my mouth desperately. ‘You’re so deeply ingrained in my brain that you drive me crazy.’

Her eyes glisten and she takes a shaky breath. Every bone in my body screams for me to take her, claim her. To show her what I can’t say. Leaning down so my eyes are level with hers, I reach for her face. My fingers press into her jaw until I feel the shape of her teeth through her skin, my thumb brushing against the soft pillow of her lips. Unable to control myself anymore, I lock my lips to hers and take what’s mine.

Because she is fucking mine.

The taste of sweet lemons blooms on my tongue and I groan. I kiss her, for all the times I couldn’t, for all the times I thought of her, but couldn’t see her. I kiss her until her breath becomes mine.

I bite her bottom lip, letting my teeth graze the plump pillow. A whimper slips free and it’s enough to drive me wild with hunger.

Her delicate fingers grip my shirt as I devour her. My hand slides lower on her ass until my fingers brush across her pussy. Her wetness sinks through the thin silk of her panties. I lift her up, grinding my cock into her as her legs wrap around my waist.

She moans, and this time I swallow it. Claiming it. Claiming her. I no longer give a fuck. Tonight, I’m taking what I should have taken four years ago. My blood buzzes for her. She parts her lips, letting my tongue explore, and I fucking feast.

Moving to the hood of the car, I place her down, settling into the warmth between her thighs. Her arms stay hooked around my neck. The cooling engine ticks beneath her, the sound matching my ratcheting pulse.

‘You’ve never left me,’ I breathe. ‘Every morning. Every second. Of every fucking day. All I’ve wanted is to have you again.’

She places a hand against my chest, but there’s no strength behind it. Her fingers even curl into my shirt. ‘You’re not listening to me.Youleft me …’

I do hear her, but it’s her who’s not hearing me, and now I’m the one who’s at a loss for words. So maybe I need to show her how connected we are, show how I’ve never left her. Show her how everything I’ve done is for her.

Then a fucking siren sounds behind us, and I mutter a few curse words as Gianna smacks my hands away and scrambles off the hood to adjust her little skirt.

Her eyes widen, dark lashes fanning toward her perfect brows when I suck the taste of her from my fingers. I let loose a devilish grin before ripping my attention to the source of the commotion: a police vehicle that’s blinding us with its headlights.

Shock takes over when Dellenty, the old security guard at the speedway, steps out of the car. He’s in a khaki uniform and wearing a fucking cowboy hat in the middle of the night. I don’t hide my surprise when I see a Booker Bay Police badge shining on his left pocket. He slowly approaches, his hand hovering over his firearm.

Such a dick.

‘Ryker Edwards,’ Dellenty says, the gravel crunching beneath his steps. His car headlights beam on us and I lift a hand, shielding my eyes.

‘Ah, you’ve become an officer now, have you?’

‘Deputy,’ he clarifies, not stopping until he stands a foot away from me.

‘That’s an upgrade from being a security guard,’ I murmur, putting my hands in my pockets.

‘It’s been quiet the last few years. Why have you decided to grace us with your presence?’

‘I suppose I’ve just missed these moments we have together.’

‘You’re trespassing on private property.’ He ignores my remark, his eyes flickering between Gianna and me.

‘You really know how to ruin a night, y’know that, Dellenty?’

‘Do I need to cuff you, or will you both wait here while I make a call?’

‘Oh?’ I gleam. ‘I take it back, double D. You’ve brought the fun with you.’
