“I love you, Wren. You’re it for me. I’ve told you that.” He had. Every single day. “I don’t see much reason to wait just because social convention seems to believe couples need to date a certain amount of time before tying the knot. I don’t need three more seconds to know all the way to the depths of my soul that you’re my forever.”
Wren blinked rapidly, trying to beat away the tears gathering. Grayson couldn’t stand to see her cry tears of pain or fear, but these tears? They were fucking gorgeous, because he knew they were driven by happiness.
“I love you too,” she whispered. “I’ve spent my entire adult life dreaming of…wishing for…a normal life. But, Grayson, you’ve given me something better. Something extraordinary and wonderful. I could never settle for something as boring as normal after you.”
Grayson’s cheeks stretched so wide with his grin, he felt the muscles straining. “Goddamn, you make me happy.”
Wren reached for him, intent on a kiss, but Grayson took one small step away, reaching into his jacket pocket. He had no idea why he’d slipped the box inside this morning, because he truly hadn’t intended to give her the ring yet. Apparently, fate wasn’t finished guiding him to his happily ever after. He’d simply been unable to resist keeping it on his person today.
Wren tilted her head, confused, until he pulled out the box. Then her eyes widened in shock.
“Gray,” she breathed. “You have a ring?”
He didn’t answer. Instead, he dropped down to one knee as she gasped.
“You’re the best thing that ever happened to me, little bird, and I can’t imagine—no. I don’t want to imagine a day where you’re not with me. Would you please do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
Wren gave up on holding back the tears, letting them flow freely down her pink cheeks as she nodded. He let that be her yes, because he could tell she was too moved to speak.
Smiling, he slid the ring on her finger, kissing the knuckle above it once it was in place, then he rose, lifted her off her feet, and gave her a much deeper, longer kiss on her lips.
When a cold breeze kicked up, they broke apart, both suddenly aware that they were still standing outside in the winter air.
“Ready to go inside and warm up?” he asked, unlocking the door as he spoke.
Again, Wren didn’t respond, her gaze captured by the engagement ring twinkling on her finger.
They stepped in and Grayson closed the door behind him, taking her hand, wiggling the ring with his thumb. “I might need to take that off you for just a few minutes tomorrow.”
She frowned, obviously unhappy at the idea of taking it off even for a second. “Why? It fits perfectly.”
“I had intended to ask your father for permission first, but you look so goddamn beautiful tonight, I lost my head.”
Her gaze softened. Her family meant as much to Wren as his did to him, so he knew how touched she was that he wanted to do this right, wanted to get her family’s blessing. “I’ll take it off while you ask my dad. But then it goes right back on.”
“Absolutely,” he replied, because that was not in question. “And then it’s never coming off again.”
They sealed that deal with a much hotter kiss as Grayson spun her around, pushing her against the door he’d just closed. Wren wrapped her arms around his shoulders, letting the wood at her back provide support as he drew up her dress and lifted one of her legs.
Grinding against her, they groaned in unison at the impact. Grayson had been riding at half-mast ever since Wren walked out of the bathroom in her navy-blue, mid-length satin dress with a draped neckline that framed her perfect slender neck. The dress was relatively simple, but on her, it looked red-carpet worthy.
Grayson ground his dick against her lace panties again as they kissed. Wren wrapped her leg around his waist, adding her own motion, seeking stimulation.
Tonight had been an exercise in patience as they sat next to each other for the delicious dinner Mila prepared. Grayson’s hand had slipped under the table countless times to stroke her knee. Wren began mimicking the touches, her fingers gliding up and down his inner thigh in a way that drove him mad.
They’d pushed the limits of PDA even further on the dance floor, Grayson stroking her back, cupping her hips, pressing his knee between her legs as they engaged in some very dirty dancing.
Every second had driven his arousal to dangerous heights, and now—with his ring on her finger and her leg around his waist—he released the beast.
Slipping his hands beneath her dress, he drew her panties to the side. His girl was soaking wet and hot as hell.
She groaned when he thrust two fingers inside. Grayson was always cognizant of her limits, careful not to cross the line doing something that might scare her. However, in just the four short weeks they’d been together, he’d noticed those limits were shrinking.
Wren was a big fan of hard and fast, and all semblance of the quieter woman she was during the day, in the library, vanished in the bedroom, where she became very vocal and demanding.
“God, yes,” she hissed, tilting her hips so he could slide in deeper. “Please, Gray! Want. You.”
He added a third, feeling her pussy stretch to accommodate them. Wren’s head flew back, banging against the door, but if it hurt, she didn’t seem to notice. Her eyes were closed in bliss, and she was moving in time with his thrusting fingers.
