“Is that a yes? Please tell me that’s a yes and that I didn’t rent this foolish costume for nothing. You loved the ballet and the movie. I want to be your Christmas hero.”

“Yes!” She flung her arms around him, nearly knocking them both over in excitement. “Yes! Yes! A million times yes. I will be your nutcracker wife.” She cupped his painted face in her hands and kissed him. “Yes.”

“Thank goodness. Now I can get out of this cursed costume.”

Wren and Noah joined in the laughter.

“You’re going to have to wear that every Christmas,” Clara warned him.

“Oh! No!” Wren cried out.

“I was joking,” Clara glanced at her friend. Wren’s face was twisted in pain. “Oh no! Are you?” She was afraid to even mention labor. It was too early.

“Yes. Get me to the hospital, Noah. My water just broke.”

Clara leaned against Zane as they watched Noah speed down the street with Wren groaning in the passenger seat. “This Christmas will be hard to top,” she laughed.

“You’ve got that right! And I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love you, Clara.”

“And I love you right back, my nutcracker prince.”
