“I ain’t never gone leave you,” I vowed truthfully. I’d be a damn fool to let her slip through the cracks again.
“You promise?” I nodded. She took her hand from my neck, holding out her pinky finger. I knew she didn’t want me to wrap mine around hers.
“Ma, a nigga ain’t doing all shit,” I said, giving her a pointed look. Her pout almost took me out.
“You tripping.” I looked towards the hallway.
She batted her eyelashes innocently, and I sucked my teeth, looking between her and the door multiple times.
“Alright, man. Just keep this shit between us.” I gave in, sliding mine around her small one.
“Who I’m gone tell, Love?” I tilted my head sideways. We both knew she told her cousin everything going on in her life.
“Jayda,” I stated, intertwining our hands together. Being with her like this felt natural, nothing between us was forced.
After a moment, she huffed out a breath. “Fine, I won’t tell her.”
I chuckled at the look on her face.
“Gimme a kiss to make it official.” I touched my mouth.
Giggling, she leaned in a little bit and I met her the rest of the way. I ran my tongue across her bottom lip until she opened for me. My dick grew hard as soon as her tongue touched mine. The kiss became more passionate, and for a second, I forgot where we were until more people walked in. We both jumped away from each other.
Baby gasped, burying her head in the crook of my neck. She was embarrassed by that, but I just wanted to pull her ass in for another one. Chuckling, I peeked down at her.
“Why you tryna hide? They ain’t even looking over here.” It was a white couple who came in, going straight to the other side of the room.
“Shut up.” She pinched my arm. After she realized we weren’t being watched, she sat up. I stared at her with a grin on my face.
Her eyes moved around the room to avoid my gaze. “What?”
“Nothing.” I could tell I made her nervous but, hell, sometimes she did the same thing to me.
Her cheeks turned red as she blushed. “I think I know a way to deal with Lauren.”
Kissing her forehead, I lifted her chin higher to look her in the eyes. “I’m listening, beautiful.”

BABY
I wokeup to my alarm clock blaring in my ear. After a few more hours of talking with Love, he dropped me off home before going back up to the hospital. Now, I had to get ready for my meeting with Lauren. I wasn’t looking forward to being in the same room with her after she sent that letter, but I didn’t have a choice. Someone pounded on my bedroom door.
“Baby, get up!” My auntie shouted. Just in case I didn’t hear my alarm, I told her to come wake me up, since she usually got out of bed around six thirty.
“I’m up, I'm up.” I moved from under the blanket.
“You want breakfast?”
My eyes zoomed to my phone screen. I still had to hop in the shower, I wouldn’t have time to eat anything. “No, I’mma be late.”
Moving quickly, I made my bed and grabbed clothes from the dresser. I couldn’t stand coming home to a messy room, so I had to make sure I cleaned for a second before going into the bathroom.
I knew I had minutes to get ready. My hands frantically roamed my body as I washed and rinsed off under the sprayer. My hair was still in the style I got for Valentine’s Day. I used mywig brush to comb through all the knots, then chunked it on the dresser.
“Baby, let’s go. You got five minutes to get out the door.”
Cursing under my breath, I slipped on a tank top and my uniform shirt, before sliding into a pair of denim jeans with some black Nike’s. After the meeting, I had to go directly to work and wouldn’t have time to come back here.
