Oh man, he is hating this.

I almost feel sorry for him, but the guy needs to get out of his shell, so I don’t do any more bailing out. I just sit there, staring at him and willing his brain not to freeze.

“Uh…” He licks his lips, then swallows and manages to rasp, “Never have I ever read a smutty romance novel?” He words it like a question, which cracks me up, and then I laugh even harder when both Adonis and Enzo down their shots along with Nix and Charli.

The girls point at Enzo and Adonis, tipping their heads back in laughter, while the guys try to justify themselves.

“It was a dare!” Enzo shouts.

Adonis shrugs. “I was curious. I needed to know what the big deal was.”

“Holy shit!” Charli cackles. “Which books did you read?”

“I went for a classic.” Adonis puts on a serious voice, threading his fingers together. “Fifty Shades.”

Nix giggles, sharing a quick look with Charli as Enzo clears his throat.

“Twisted Loveby Ana Huang,Face Offby Chelsea Curto, andBirthday Girlby Penelope Douglas.”

Charli’s mouth drops open. “Three? You read three? Because it was ‘just a dare’ right?” She uses air quotes, and Enzo starts getting all defensive while his skin turns tomato-red.

“They’re good books, okay.”

Nix giggles. “Are you currently reading another one?”

Enzo groans, dipping his head and muttering, “A Not So Meet Cuteby Meghan Quinn.”

“Oooo, that’s a good one.” Charli nods. “I loved that one.”

Huh. I wouldn’t have pegged Charli for being into romance novels. She doesn’t strike me as the type. She’s so “one of the guys” that it’s hard to imagine her snuggled up with a sexy book.

But there you go. People can surprise you, I guess.

And they do.

Repeatedly.

As the night wears on, I discover that Ben did a presentation in class with his fly down, and Darian’s mom caught him getting frisky with a girl from his twelfth-grade chem class. It didn’t help that she’d cuffed him to the end of his bed.

“With pink fluffy cuffs.” Charli laughed out the words, then snorted and keeled over. She was so fucking drunk by the time we got to that one.

I’m pretty hammered too.

I’ve lived a good life, okay?

And when Sawyer stated that he’d never had sex in a department store and Jimmy mumbled that he’d never kissed more than one person on the same night and Nix said she’d never flirted with a teacher to get a better grade, I had to down those shots every time. I also had to throw back shots when someone said they’d never sped away from a police car, someone else said they’d never been arrested, and I think it was Darian who claimed he’d never laughed at a funeral.

What? I got the giggles when my grandmother died because the idiot minister kept mispronouncing her name.

Admittedly, Siobhan isn’t the easiest, but most people see that name and know it’s Shi-vawn, not See-o-ban like the minister kept saying. I couldn’t help myself.

They made me take a double shot for that one, calling me a heartless bastard.

And now I’m so fucking wasted, I can barely see straight.

The room is definitely getting fuzzy, the laughter that much louder and crazier. The only person who’s probably still sober is Jimmy.

Has he even had one shot of pickle juice yet?
