Blake wiggled her eyebrows. “Are you ready for our date?”

Earlier in the week, after much debate, I’d agreed to let Blake pick the destination for tonight. She’d been adamant about doing something I’ve never done before, something I wouldn’t expect to do on a date. “The question is…areyouready?” I tossed back.

“Of course,” she said with a shrug. “I know what I’m doing.”

Every time we talked, I learned a bit more about Blake. She still held a lot close to the vest, though. But I couldn’t wait to reveal all of her layers. “I believe you.”

“Actually, my date idea goes perfectly with today. You’ll be so happy for the treat.”

Frowning, I opened my mouth to ask for another clue, but my mother zoomed in between us and steered Blake away from me before I could say a word.

Dexter approached me, hands in his pockets. “Pray real hard, bruh.”

I blinked. “What for?”

“She’s not good with parents.” He cracked up and smacked my shoulder. “Just playin’. She’ll charm your mother, and then break your heart.”

I waited for him to tell me he was kidding again. When he didn’t say anything else, I said, “I’ll take that as a warning.”

Shrugging, Dexter added, “You do that.” Then he followed one of the deacons outside to start work.

As we finished unloading and sorting the many boxes, I thought about Dexter’s warning. While it should’ve given me pause, it hadn’t deterred me from wanting to know her. And when we were done with all the prep for tomorrow and Blake asked if I was ready for our date, I said, “Yes.”

Later,I was lying next to Blake—practically naked.

Blake groaned. “I don’t want to move right now,” she murmured. “Maybe this wasn’t my best idea.”

Struggling to keep my eyes opened, I said, “Actually, this was perfect.”

Blake had surprised me at every turn, from the moment we’d left the church. Our first stop had been to her dojo for a light workout. Apparently, she was a little perturbed I’d been able to hold on to her at the bar, so she’d wanted to spar with me. After we’d both ended up flat on our backs, out of breath, she’d brought me to a day spa.

Lifting my head out of the face cradle, I peered over at her and let my gaze wander over her smooth brown skin, the outline of her breast against the table, the swell of her ass underneath the sheet. It could’ve been the soft music or the aroma therapeutic oils or just her, but I felt relaxed, sated in a way I hadn’t in years. And I wanted her—all of her. All night.

The only problem? She’d put herself on punishment from yak and sex. Chuckling to myself, I thought about her panicked look when she’d told me about her promise to herself. Since then, we’d only talked about it once, and I still wasn’t satisfied. Because I wanted to know more.

Her massage therapist stepped back and held up a sheet, allowing Blake to flip over on her back. I continued my perusal as the masseuse massaged her toned thighs.

“Lennox?” Her low, sultry voice pulled me from my thoughts. My gaze traveled back up her body to her face. Her eyes were closed and her lips were…so ready to be kissed. She smiled, almost as if she knew what I’d been thinking. “I see you.”

“With your eyes closed?” I asked, turning over.

“Yes. It’s my special gift.”

The massage therapist applied pressure to my arms. “Really?” I said. “Can you read minds too?”

She opened those big, brown eyes, piercing me with her stare. “Absolutely.”

It wasn’t my style to back down, so I challenged her. “What am I thinking?”

“You’re sleepy,” she said.

“Of course I am.”

“And you’re hungry,” she said matter-of-factly.

As if on cue, my stomach growled. We both laughed. “I could eat,” I admitted.

“Not just for food, though.”
