A smile tugged at my lips. “Good to know.”
“Sissy?”
I blinked, glancing over at the intruder—Bliss. “Hey,” I whispered. “Are you okay?”
She eyed Lennox, shooting her best flirtatious smile up at him. “I’m good.” She held out her hand. “Hi, I’m Bliss.”
“Twins?” he asked.
We both said yes at the same time. Bliss laughed. “And best friends.”
“Bliss, this is Professor Cole.”
“Lennox,” he corrected.
My twin’s eyes widened and her mouth fell open. “Oh, wow. Hey.”
“Good to meet you,” he told her. “But I see you already know who I am.”
“Um, yeah. Oh, well…” Bliss stammered. “Thanks for not pressing charges against my sister. She really didn’t mean it.”
He nodded, never taking his eyes off me. “I know.”
“She’s really sorry,” she explained unnecessarily.
“Bliss,” I warned.
“Really sorry,” my twin repeated.
“He already knows,” I told her.
“Anyway, I just came here to let you know we’re heading back to the big house,” Bliss announced, “to have dinner together.”
“Okay.” I finished my cheesecake. “I’ll be right there.”
“We’ll be upstairs.” Bliss winked at me, said her goodbyes to Lennox, then waddled off.
Shrugging, I said, “I’d better go. Maybe next time I see you, you’ll tell me more?”
“Definitely. Call me if you hear anything about Dory.”
“I will.”
“Bye, Blake Young.”
I grinned. “Bye, Lennox Cole.” I started to walk away, then I remembered something. Turning back, I picked up another cup of dessert. “Have to have two.”
Laughing, he grabbed another cup. “Like I said, I won’t tell if you don’t.”
Chapter 4
Something in the Past
Lennox
It had been a week since Ayana had embarrassed the hell out of both of us, and I’d finally decided to venture into Afternoon Delight to meet my colleague and friend, Lincoln Wilson, Jr, for breakfast. The hostess recognized me immediately, throwing a bit of shade at the entire scene with my ex before she slid me her phone number and told me to call her.
The regular waitress had simply welcomed me back, then showed me to my booth. I’d just ordered when Linc walked into the café.
