“Okay,” Vonda said. “How is she? I know she’s probably distraught over the new lawsuit.”

Sighing, he dropped his gaze to his phone again. Paige hadn’t called him again, and he felt bad that he hadn’t been able to call her back.I need to call her. “I’ll see her in a little bit,” he said.

“Right, she has that interview with Wendell Wilson today. That should be interesting. I hate that man. He’s a dick.”

Andrew chuckled. “Tell me how you really feel.”

She covered her mouth. “I’m so sorry.”

He waved her off. “Don’t worry about it. For your next step, think about the type of assistant you want, because you’ll need to hire one.”

Vonda pressed a hand to her chest. “I get my own assistant?”

“You do. And treat them well. They’ll save you one day. Just like you’ve saved me.”

“I’m not going to cry at work.” She sniffed. “I’m not. I promise.”

He eyed her and the tears forming in her eyes. “Are you sure about that?”

Vonda laughed. “I’m sure,” she said, shakily.

His office door swung open and Skye marched inside. Smacking a piece of paper on his desk, she said, “What the hell is this?”

His gaze dropped down to the paper. The headline:PAIGE MILLS COZIES UP TO HER LOVER IN A HOUSTON PARKING GARAGE.

Andrew skimmed the article before meeting Skye’s gaze. He opened his mouth to respond to her, but nothing came out. Because there was nothing really to say. The article wasn’t anything deep or libelous. The writer just mentioned they were spotted kissing in a dark SUV. Which was the truth.

Skye glared at him, snatching the paper from the desk and shoving it in her purse. “What part of keep it quiet don’t you get?”

Vonda jumped up. “Um, I think it’s time for me to go. Let me know you if you need anything.”

Andrew waited for Vonda to leave the officeandcounted to ten. Because he was going to lose it.

“Damn, it’s like talking to toddlers.” Skye stalked to the other side of the office, stopped abruptly, then whirled around to face him. “I tell you to stop, but you do it anyway.”

“But I’m not your damn kid, though,” he growled. “I’m a grown-ass man, and I can do whatever the hell I want.”

“Even if what you want is affecting Paige?”

Andrew stood abruptly, tipping his chair over. But he made no move to pick it up. “Skye, I’m not in the mood for this. You need to leave.”

He crammed the things on his desk into a drawer. The taping ofThe Wendell Wilson Showwould start in a few hours, and he’d promised Paige he’d be there.

“Where are you going?” Skye walked over to him and picked up his chair. “I know you’re not going to the taping.”

Ignoring her, he packed up his laptop and mouse and stuffed a couple of file folders into his bag.

“Andrew?” Skye called.

“I’m minding my business, Skye,” he said through clenched teeth. “Maybe you should mind yours.”

“Paigeismy business. Her career is my business.” She pointed her manicured finger at him. “Youshould know better. Of all people, you know how important it is to make a plan and stick with it. The plan was for you and Paige to stay away from each other for now—at least in public. But, no . . . You couldn’t do that. Now, I have another headline on my hands, right before she goes onThe Wendell Wilson Show. So, no, you’re not going. You need to stay the hell away from that studio.”

He turned away from her and turned off his monitor.

Skye sighed heavily. “Andrew, I get it.”

Pausing, he glanced at her. “Get what?”
