Paige noticed Skye hadn’t said her name and thanked God for her discreet publicist. “I’m fine.”

“Hold on.” She heard the buzz of activity in the background, and wondered where her publicist was. The tap of heels against a floor signaled Skye was moving. Soon, there was silence. “Okay,” Skye said. “Had to get the hell out of that room. Where are you?”

“Skye, please. I can’t tell you where I am.” She wasn’t ready for her safe haven to be breached. Not yet. “But I’m safe and hidden.”

“You do realize there’s a shitstorm brewing right now. People coming out of the woodwork with Nefarious Paige stories. We need to come up with a plan.”

“Which is why I’m calling you now.”

Skye sighed. “Fine. I just need to know one thing.”

“What?”

“You didn’t really have ass implants, did you? Because then I’ll have to craft a sympathetic plastic surgery horror story, and I don’t want to do that.”

Paige laughed. “You’re crazy. No, my ass is God given.”

“Good. No parties or drinking?”

“Just wine and the occasional mixed drink,” Paige replied.

“What about men? Any affairs I should know about?”

Paige hesitated. She’d never been a cheater. Torrid affairs weren’t her thing. She didn’t date multiple men at the same time or run around with married men. But . . .Andrew. Although she hadn’t done anything wrong, full disclosure was the only way Skye could do an effective job as Paige’s publicist.

“Paige?” Skye called. “Please tell me you’re not hiding away with someone’s boo.”

There was no judgment in Skye’s tone, but Paige didn’t like the insinuation. “No,” she snapped. “I’m notthatwoman.”

“I had to ask. If you are sneaking around with someone, I’m not judging you. There’s no way I can help if I don’t know everything.”

“I’m not in a relationship with anyone—yet.”

“Oh God,” Skye grumbled. “Do I need a drink for this? In the middle of the day. I don’t have to tell you how bad the timing is, right?”

“I know.”

“Okay, hit me with it. Who is he?”

“Before I go any further, nothing has really happened between us. I’m only telling you this for full disclosure.”

“Got it.”

“And I haven’t even talked to him about this.” Paige wondered if she should walk her admission back until she could speak to Andrew. What if he didn’t want anyone to know? He had a professional reputation to uphold as well.

“Well, I don’t know him. So how would he know that I know.”

“You do know him,” Paige admitted softly.

“Wait a minute . . . Paige if you took Julius back after everything that muthafucka put you through, I’m—”

“Hell no. I didn’t take him back.”

Skye let out a heavy sigh. “Woo, chile. I knew you weren’t stupid, but I couldn’t think of anyone . . . else.” She gasped, and Paige knew her publicist had figured it out. “No.”

“Nothing happened,” Paige rushed on. “Not much anyway,” she added.

“Oh no, Paige! What? Why?”
