Scoffing, I return the hug. "Thank you."
"Ione." Caspian pulls me in for a hug. "If you aren't a consort, you and I could make some sweet music together."
"Boy," I push him playfully. "It was nice meeting you."
Moireth is sitting in the driver's seat of some sports car, and as soon as Caspian enters, she peels off.
Chronomir approaches me. "A lot of time on your hands," He taps the partially hidden left side of his face. "Don't waste it. Things are best said now." He shakes my hand, backing away to wait for Rose.
"I promise you," She chuckles lightly. "When we get together it is not like this."
"I hope not, be safe, Rose."
"Always am."
A door appears, and they walk through it.
Luciara glares at her brother. "Do not make me force you to say what's in your heart." She snaps. "It's infuriating."
Athanasius raises his hand into a talking mouth."Blah,blah,blah. Leave."
"Goodbye Luciara. Bye Delilah."
"I'm sorry, I really am." Delilah sniffles, before turning into her wolf self.
As they race off into the night, Athanasius stretches his upper arms and looks towards the sky. "It's going to rain tonight."
"Good." I answer. "Could use some."
"Your neighbor is peeking out of her blinds too." He chuckles.
Sure enough, Ms. Taylor is staring at us with her mouth pinched. Lifting my hand, I try to wave at her, but she slams her blinds back down.
"Come inside, rabbit, enough trauma for your neighbors."
Chapter seventeen
My Dark is Your Home
Athanasius
She'sactingdistant.Rightfullyso, my beyond annoying sister made her think she was going to die or something. Luciara would have never, but she's never done something like that. I do what I can to help Ione clean the kitchen, and after a while she gently pushes me out of the kitchen.
"I appreciate you trying to help me, but you are in my way." She chuckles. "Supervise or go to bed or something."
"I will not sleep without you." I grumble.
To which she answers. "Then read my book, you're farther along than I am anyway."
I stand for awhile and watch her, then find myself in bed reading as she said. Forty minutes passes by, and she still hasn't come upstairs. Sighing, I swing my legs over the side, and walk downstairs. She's not in the kitchen, thunder rolls low over the house, the sky flashes and illuminates the back porch.
The rain is coming down steadily, and Ione is sitting on the back porch, her arms wrapped around her legs as she watches the night sky.
She is beautiful, my jaw clenches, and I hear Luciara in my mind.
Tell her how you feel. Don't let what happened with one turn you away from another. You cannot paint all humans with the same brush brother, trust me, this one is special.
She felt like a match.
