“That’s why you started your business.” Heat blooms inside me as I cling to him. It’s noisy when he drags his hands through my wetness.
“I didn’t exactly have a clean soul. I’m in this life, but I didn’t want to join any of the syndicates. I figured I could offer them a service, though, an elite level of protection. I know most keep their security in-house, but they always have the option to contract out, and there are tons of rich guys that want to pretend like they need something as fancy as a bodyguard.”
He’s now got three fingers inside me, pumping in and out.
“Tris—” I can’t even pretend to hold a conversation anymore.
He kisses my cheek, his thumb tracing my clit. Stars burst around me.
I collapse into his chest. He retracts his fingers, running his hand up and down my back. We sit there silently while he sips his coffee and I blissfully peace out.
This is undoubtedly how I’d like to spend my time, but Tristan’s phone rings.
“Sorry.” He shifts me, reaching for the phone. He answers in Spanish, and I know it’s serious when he stiffens.
I start to stand, thinking he needs privacy, but he balls his fist in my shirt, tugging me back to him. I curiously look on, cursing my lack of a second language. He goes back and forth between checking his calendar and responding to whoever is on the phone.
“Okay,” he says. “I told you I’d be there.”
He ends the call with a sigh.
“What’s wrong?”
Tristan runs a hand over his face. “It’s my dad’s birthday.”
CHAPTER 22
Tristan
Ididn’t forget my father’s birthday. It’s been on the calendar for weeks. I just wasn’t expecting all of my employees to want to go.
“We’ll just take Blue with us,” Luis had said days ago. At the time I wasn’t inclined to take Isolde, a woman I’d just bent over the couch and fucked, to meet all of my family.
I’m still not inclined.
But thanks to my lack of planning, here we are.
“You want me to come?” Isolde asks, her blue eyes unblinking.
I give her options. “You can hang out with Ben at Fujimori’s, spend time with Hadrian, or come with us.”
“You don’t like it when I hang out with Hadrian.”
I’d prefer if she never said that asshole’s name, but I have to face the facts. They have a fucked up friendship. One built on a shared history involving someone who is dead. He’s done right by her in every way. He got her to New York, and he’s paying for an armed guard to protect her.
“I hate him,” I admit, going through a dresser drawer, looking for clothes. My dad’s birthday means I needsomething relaxed but nice. I can’t don tactical gear and remind him that my job is to quite literally stand in front of a bullet. And I’ll get teased to hell if I show up in a suit.
It’s been a perfectly lovely morning. Isolde on her knees had hardened my cock immediately. I should be embarrassed with how my own knees almost gave out, she sucked my dick so well. I might have tangled my fingers in her hair and forced her mouth to take me, but the effect Isolde has on me goes down to the bone.
Her pussy soaked from the morning’s activities, she showered, and now stands in the doorframe in just her towel. “I’ll go to Ben’s.”
My thoughts war against one another.
I’ve done everything to keep my personal and professional lives separate, but there are multiple good reasons to bring her to my dad’s party.
For starters, she’s my best and most important client. And it’s not because Hadrian is paying.
I don’t think anyone will harm her at Fujimori’s, but the worry would never leave me.
