Adeline blushes just the slightest, her neck turning red. “No, it’s just a casual thing. The guy's name is Blake.”
“What’s he do?”
“Lawyer. Stop deflecting.” She runs her hand through her hair, like she’s trying to fan herself off. “I’ll be home most of the day, but I’m coming into the city for our date. What if I came early? We could get ready together.”
“But I don’t have anything to wear.” Otherwise it’d be a good plan.
“Good thing I’ve got a shopping addiction. I will bring you not just one, but many options. I assure you, with your permission, I can be the fairy godmother of your dreams.”
I laugh, my chest lifting. “Really?”
“I don’t want to sound like a spoiled rich girl, but I’ll use one of our drivers instead of taking the train so I can lug over every single piece of clothing in my closet.”
“We’re not the same size.”
Adeline touches my arm again, not letting go of my gaze. “I’ve got this. Fairy godmother, remember?”
Her seriousness rings loud and clear. I nod, despite my misgivings. “Okay, I guess I’ll go.”
“Good.” She pulls her hair back into a high pony.
Not many women hang out at Leon’s, so we’re used to taking over the entire locker room. She chats and sings and twirls around for no reason as she dresses. I pull my phone out, bringing up a calendar.
Tristan set it up when Hadrian first hired him. I’m supposed to put any events on it so he can sync his calendar and ensure enough coverage. It’s remained woefully blank thanks to Ren thinking she can cut back my work schedule.
I’m not a fan of my activity being monitored, but I’ve stopped fighting it, and as such I’ll be an adult. I copy and paste the details Harry texted me, even including the bar’s address, into the calendar.
“Coffee?” Adeline asks, slinging her bag over her shoulder. “You can grab something for Russ.”
“I’ve got a spot picked out, if that’s all right?” I finish entering the details and then pull up my notes app. I’ve got a running list of coffee shops I want to try.
“Yeah, of course.” Adeline pushes the door open, coming to a halt.
Tristan is right on the other side, his presence taking up most of the hallway. “You added something to the calendar.”
Adeline glances between us.
“I got invited to something.” It means I don’t have to keep sitting alone in my flat. “Also, I’ve got plans this afternoon.”
Tristan straightens.
I wish his face wasn’t so damn handsome. The molten brown eyes narrow just the slightest as he studies me. His jaw is clenched, but I can’t understand why he’s so cut up about it.
Neither can Adeline. “What’s the deal, Mr. Grumpy Bodyguard?”
He doesn’t bother looking over at her. “You added something to the calendar for this Wednesday. Tomorrow?”
“Yeah.”
“In the evening?”
“Yeah.”
“And today?” he asks. “What’s going on today?”
“I’m going to go hang out with Russet.”
“Zimin?” His voice asks sharply.
