God, she was so very full of him …
The air began to stir, whipping her hair wildly as she backed into Nick, countering him thrust for thrust, his hips slamming her rhythmically, picking up dizzying speed. She couldn’t widen her stance, restricted by the dress and thong, resulting in an impossibly tight grip on him. Cries sailed from her lips, muted by the ever louder chop of the rotors, andsuddenly a spotlight switched on, shining on them.
Flashes appeared before Jannie’s eyes, strobe lights interspersed with images of people watching. And something wild overtook her, the thrill of doing this, of being seen, of causing someone else to get turned on …
Dirty Jannie.
She shoved off Blake’s mocking words with everything she had.
All she wanted was the thrill of this forbidden moment, the intense sensation, and the unparalleled way Nick was pounding into her, setting every nerve ending on fire.
The helicopter hovered high in the air.
Jannie, too, hovered … So close … so very close …
Nick changed the angle of his strokes, his fingers making long, deliberate glides along her drenched flesh, sending a charge barreling through her that gathered in one enormous upsurge.
Monumental.
Jannie arched her back, mouth opening in a shuddering gasp as her entire body began to shake, rhythmically squeezing Nick, who immediately slowed, then stopped, gentling what his skilled hand was doing. One pass, two … and Jannie’s world became a firework with a million sparkling points.
And still, the helicopter hovered, not descending.
Nick’s hand stilled for a beat. And then, he started again.
Too much. It was almost too much. The roar of the engine, the spinning rotor, her body coming apart, people watching, everything spinning … she was fuel, and Nick was the reactor.
His warm, strong fingers dug into her hip, gripping and releasing in sync with his other hand and with his quick, erratic thrusts.
A few heartbeats later, his grip tightened like iron. “Yeah …”
She sensed his body quiver, distinctly felt him harden, her body vibrating with his groan against her back as he leaned over, slipped his arm around her, and he, too, went over the edge.
“Uhhh!”
Jannie’s head lowered as she gasped for air, grateful for Nick’s tight hold while she came down, barely able to remain standing. His chestheaved, his beard was rough against her upper back, his breath hot on her skin.
Tears welled in her eyes. Why, she didn’t know. All she knew was that Nick was pressing tender kisses along her spine, murmuring something she couldn’t hear.
Above them, the helicopter’s lights flashed once, twice. And then it ascended, thewhop-whopof the rotors growing fainter and fainter, until it disappeared into the night.
CHAPTER 20
Jannie
“Look at them fly!”
Jannie gazed up in fascination, watching the dozens of pigeons circle over the avenue, then glide down and rest on the ledges of the surrounding buildings. More birds lined up almost wing to wing on electrical wires, peering down at the people below. This, she hadn’t seen in Florida, and certainly not in Las Vegas. It made her smile.
“They’re well fed,” Nick observed. “I’m surprised they can still fly.”
There was plenty of good food to be had in New York City. Between the sumptuous late dinners after Broadway shows, pastries at several well-known bakeries Nick wanted to try, and snacks at three different brick-oven pizzerias, Jannie thought she would have gained a few pounds over the past couple of days if it weren’t for walking until her feet hurt. The well-equipped Mile High gym also helped, and Jannie finally understood why Nick looked the way he did: the man always worked out like a beast.
This morning, their third and last, they finished their sunrise stroll in Central Park and headed to a little place Nick had learned about from a horse-drawn carriage driver who promised they’d be served the best pancakes in the city.
“You’ll never eat a better breakfast,” the man declared. “They have everything from oatmeal to crab eggs Benedict.”
“You had me at pancakes,” Nick said.
