Rather than accept the apology, he steers me up my driveway, his arm still slung across my shoulders. As we stroll side-by-side, I relax, his embrace friendly, but nothing more.

This is a relief, because despite my attraction to him being one-sided, I value his friendship. Rather than working on the float in silence, we've connected at a deeper level, talking of our hopes and dreams.

When I first met him, I'd never have picked him for a guy who wanted to have his own business restoring furniture, but there you go. Even hotties have hidden depths.

He'd shared that with me when I'd told him more of what I was facing at the agency. After taking the time to digest it, he'd agreed with me that Jason was out to get me.

On reaching the front door, I slide my key into the lock, step inside, and turn to face him before speaking. "I'll see you in the morning. Again, I'm so sorry…"

I don't finish yet another apology for my behavior, with Zac reaching up and putting his finger over my lips. "Shhh, don't. You don't need to apologize for something I've wanted myself for weeks."

I'm still processing his words when he places his hands gently on either side of my head, leans in, and brushes his lips over mine. The kiss is ethereal, as though he isn't sure of himself.

That doesn't last long past my stepping forward to be closer to him. It's something that has me missing the edge of the doorsill and slamming against him. His arms wrap tight around me, pulling me closer.

As my heart opens to him, so do my lips, his tongue playing with mine, resulting in heat pooling between my thighs. And I'm not alone in my reaction, with his erection soon enough nudging my tummy.

Despite my body being into it, I can't shut my brain up. It's rabbiting on about him being too hot for me, distracting me from the kiss. Soon enough, Zac notices my inattention and lifts his head.

The fire in his eyes is more than a match for the fire in my body, easing my worries. It's enough to convince me to put my hand behind his head and bring his lips back down to mine.

My emotions toward this gorgeous man are enough to have me throwing caution to the wind. Even if I'll regret it later, the memories of a night with him will be worth it.

At least I hope so. I need a break for once in my life. Sex as a distraction? Now there's something I never thought would cross my mind.

ZAC

As Kelly's lips soften beneath mine, I have to fight the longing to devour her. I've found her attractive right from the start, but as I've got to know her better, that attraction has intensified.

It's a novel experience, with me more often having the most basic level of communication with the women I end up with. Again, I'm not full of myself in thinking this, with them as likely to want to keep any relationship…

What's the word I'm looking for?

That's right, shallow!

Kelly having shared her hopes and dreams with me, there's nothing shallow about my attraction to her. The one thing I'm unsure of is whether she's like all those other women and only after a physical relationship.

For the first time in my adult life, this doesn't sit well. Does this mean I'll turn her down? Hell no. I'm thinking this right until she leads me over to the stairs.

Now I'm torn. If I ask if we can take things slowly, she'll think I've changed my mind, that I don't find her attractive, when this is so not true.

Up in what must be the master suite, I'm at first distracted by the lights of Coogan's Break spread out before us.

It must be a killer view during the day, although it's Kelly who draws my eye now. She looks to be having second thoughts, or it could be nerves. I want our first time together to be perfect.

With her once again tight against me, my lips again cover hers. If there's one thing that I'm good at—okay, more than good at—it's pleasuring a woman. However, the pressure is even greater when I have feelings for Kelly, beyond the physical.

I break our kiss long enough to ask, "Lights on, or off?" I never assume with women. Me, I couldn't care either way, yet tonight I long to see Kelly's face when she comes.

To have her arching under me, to watch her eyelids fluttering and her mouth forming a perfect 'O' as she fills the room with her cries of pleasure. It'd be as big a turn-on as her being wrapped tight around my length.

Rather than respond to my question, she reaches out and grabs a remote off the bedside table. A moment later, the electronic blinds on the skylight overhead slide back and the bedroom is flooded with moonlight.

While nowhere near as bright as if she'd turned on a lamp, it'll be more than enough to reveal her in all her glory spread out under me. Plenty bright enough to watch her gaze widening every time I drive myself home.

And yet, despite my having been in this very situation a hundred times before, tonight I'm conscious of wanting to make a good impression.

Although not in bed, because I've no worries about my abilities in that department. I might even be too confident, according to some women. And yet I'm nowhere near that, now. I'm as raw tonight as I was when I lost my V-card to my high school art teacher, Miss Wright.
