It’s loud. Loud enough that I drop to the floor, my head cradled in my hands, my body curled in to protect my internal organs. I only become aware Skye is still there when she shoves me onto my back.
She then surprises me even more, by climbing on top of me, draping that beautiful body of hers over mine as effectively as any weighted blanket.
She doesn’t speak, rather she simply holds me tight, calming me by her very presence.
And she stays with me, not letting go until I’m again able to speak. Until I become conscious that I’ve never reacted to my weighted blanket the way I’m reacting to her, right now.
What is it about near-death experiences that have you wanted to take hold of life? It’s obvious my mind can’t distinguish between real dangers, and imagined, because my body currently has a mind of its own.
It’s only on tipping my head to the side that I see something sitting on the floor next to us, the perfect thing to break the tension in the room.
“Are those some of your famous cherry pies?”
