I didn’t even care that my breath probably smelled awful. After last night, I craved her kiss.

“I have no doubt you’ll do something else to piss me off in the near future.” She brushed her mouth against mine, her kiss erasing every hint of pain coursing through me. “Plus, I think angry sex is overrated.”

“Is that right?”

She gave me a coy look. “I’d much rather have makeup sex.”

“I think that can be arranged.” I waggled my brow as I attempted to sit up, every inch of my body flaring in protest, making me grimace.

She jumped to her feet, helping to steady me. “From the looks of things, I doubt you’re in any condition for sex of any kind at the moment.”

“I’m fine.”

“You don’t look fine, Henry.”

“I’ve dealt with worse.”

She pinned me with a glare. “That’s not the comforting statement you think it is.”

I drew in a deep breath, but every part of me felt raw.

“Do you want something for the pain?”

I shook my head slowly, despite the throbbing. “Right now, all I want to do is take a shower. I can still smell that place on me.”

“I’m not sure it’s a good idea for you to stand for a prolonged period of time, especially in a marble shower. You still seem a bit unsteady.”

“Then what do you suggest?” I passed her a mischievous smile. “A sponge bath?”

She blew out a small laugh as her eyes raked over me. “Maybe this is what you were talking about.”

I tilted my head. “What do you mean?”

“Remember when you fell down that ravine at the cabin and I patched you up?”

“Of course I do. It’s when I first began to realize I was wrong about you.” I held her gaze, my expression falling. “I just didn’t know to what extent yet.”

“You were making jokes about me giving you a sponge bath back then, too.”

“The offer remains open.” I playfully waggled my brows, which earned me a small smile.

“Exactly my point. It was a side of you I didn’t expect. That day, you said there was a whole side of you I hadn’t yet met. A side you thought I’d like.” She leaned closer. “You were right.”

“I was?”

She gave a small nod. “I do like this other side of Henry.” She cupped my cheek, her mouth inching closer to mine. “I love this other side of Henry.”

“So…is that a yes to a sponge bath?”

She lingered near my mouth for a beat. Then she threw her head back, her laughter echoing in the rafters. “Considering you’re not a complete invalid incapable of getting into a tub, how about a regular bath?”

“I’ll pretend to be a complete invalid if it means you’ll run your hands all over me.”

“How about this?” She curved toward me once more. “I’ll join you in the bath and make sure every inch of you is clean.”

I dug my fingers through her hair, to hell with the pain shooting through my body from the motion. “I think that’s a fantastic compromise.”
