The driver drove us through the city while I was on my phone checking in with Keith, making sure that Amir was okay, when I felt Islah’s hand on top of mine, making me look at her.

“I feel like I am messing us up.”

I shook my head. “You are not messing anything up.”

“I am not acting like me.”

I nodded. “That is true, you are not. Can you talk to me?”

She paused for a second. “I have been trying to, I honestly want to. I just don’t know how.”

I exhaled and placed my phone in my lap, giving her my full attention. Islah looked like she was trying to hold everything together, but needed help like I wasn’t there to help her.

“I thought this lil’ trip would help, but I don’t know what I did to trigger you.”

She exhaled. “I…”

She paused. I was starting to get irritated, but tried not to show it. Luckily, we were pulling up to Danny’s store.

“Come on, mamas. I’ma be in and out so we can make our flight.”

I took her hand, and we walked inside.

Danny was already loud and excited before we even walked through the door.

“Mr. Mayer, it is so good to see you, and who is this you brought with you?”

“My wife,” I responded. “Come on, Danny, we have a flight to catch, gotta get home to my son.”

“Okay, okay, my friend, let me get you straight.”

We walked around the store with him, getting what I normally get. Then he showed me some custom-cut diamonds he had, and I took them, knowing I would be able to fit them into something I was working on.

Off to the side, I caught Islah looking at some pink and purple diamonds.

“You like them?” I yelled out at her.

She stopped touching them.

“Yeah, they are pretty.”

I nodded.

“Danny, let me get what she’s looking at, too.”

She smirked at me, and I winked back.

“I can put something special together for our wedding day.”

She never responded to that, and I made a note of it.

After about ten minutes, I had everything I needed, and we left with enough time to make it to the airport. While we were sitting there, I glanced over at her texting her girls when I asked, “When do you want to get married?”

Islah put her phone down.

“I don’t know, baby. Don’t we need to make sure Amir is okay after the service?”

I agreed with her to a certain extent.
