“I know that for sure, Yemi. It’s the same thing my Valtrue’s father wants to do. You need to stay here with the others. Please.”

She clenches her fist at her sides, mad as fuck.

I completely understand. I’d be the same way if they tried to tell me this, but unfortunately, we’re different. K has a need for me. He’d use me not only as leverage over the guys, but to fit his agenda. He’d use my powers against me.

The God of Pain would simply use Yemi to torture Sevryn.

“Fine,” she finally says.

“Everyone move,” Kyzen says and his power bursts through the house, wrapping around each of us.

I’m in my closet, putting on my dreaded armor, in less than a few seconds.

“Derivius,”I call.

There’s no response as I tighten my daggers at my sides, then adjust the strappings on my back.

“Derivius.”

Still nothing when I make my way back into the kitchen.

“Anyone got a response from Derivius?”

An echo of no answers me and I grit my teeth.

“V, please be on standby to relay messages to Yemi. Yemi, go inform Ellian of what’s going on. If shit gets to be too much over there, he’s going to need to send Gladian and some help. This is undoubtedly a coordinated attack,” Kyzen says and I swallow as that distant look flickers in his eyes.

“Of course,”V hoots and I let the sound settle in my blood.

We should just stay home.

We can’t.

There are innocent people being killed.

Creed won’t be able to resist the calls much longer.

He’s already hurting.

Fuck.

Yemi nods and Sevryn snatches her to his chest, laying a fierce kiss on her lips. I turn my attention from them and focus on my men so they can have some privacy.

“This is a trap. Either for him or for us,” I say.

All four of them nod.

“Maybe we should—”

“I just lost a nine-year-old, Thayla. I’m not losing another one,” Creed shouts.

His arms tremble at his sides and sweat beads on his forehead. My chest is about to crack open from the pressure his soul is under. I’m not sure exactly what he has to do to relieve this.

Save them from death or grant them a more merciful one.

All I know is each one that dies and he doesn’t answer their call, it pains him greatly.

“Okay. Let’s go. We’ll call for backup if we need it.”
