Kyzen’s sly smile has heat rushing through my body.

Valories…this is a competition on the rise.

You know what, I don’t actually mind since I’m the winner and the prize.

The weight that’s been sitting on my shoulders fades and a long-drawn-out exhale pours from my lips.

I swear, as if in slow motion, I watch the tension bleed from them.

A laugh I can’t contain breaks free from me as Riven jumps up, demanding Creed get busy in the kitchen on his cake. I catch the look Amick and Kyzen share with one another.

I mosey my way to the mug of coffee set to the side that I know is mine, and I lean against the counter. Its warmth adds to what’s already spreading through me as I silently watch four brothers come back together.

Gods…this is my imperfect perfect life.

I don’t think there’s anything I wouldn’t do to protect it.

“Dear Messenger, hopefully, there won’t be a next time, but if a time comes when we get close to losing one another, a little warning would be nice.”

“You gonna be good?”

“Fucking spectacular. There’s nowhere else in the realm I’d rather be.”

I suck my teeth as I stare at the side of Sevryn’s face. For someone who was bitching, moaning, and refusing to sit in his house any longer, he seems ready to go right back.

“Where else would you have me take you? You can’t go to the Athenaeum with Yemi. Gladian’s bound, so he won’t be spewing off who you are to everyone.”

“I don’t understand what the fuck it matters anymore. Seduction saw me. She knows I’m alive. Do you seriously think she hasn’t told my father—our fathers?”

I scoff at him. He acts like I didn’t ask Amick these same damn questions.

“I have no clue. All I know is, which I’ve already told you, Amick doesn’t want you around the High Chancellor. He doesn’twant him to know that Yemi has a Valtrue, and you staying up her ass raises questions.”

“Fine. Whatever. I don’t see why I couldn’t have gone off with Riven or whatever the hell you’re about to do. I’m staying here two hours, max, then going home.”

“Riven isn’t doing anything but going to see Verlet, then going back home. I’m going to check on my Binder and yours. I don’t have a rotation here anymore and I don’t want to be here. You don’t have to stay. You’re the one who smiled when I offered you the opportunity to come beat the hell out of a few Defenders.”

A small smirk crosses his lips as his gaze scans the gods in the center of the Court. His face morphs into a sneer when he catches the females staring at him.

“Fine. Any shit comes out of Gladian’s mouth and I’m knocking his teeth down his throat.”

“Fine by me.”

I clap him on the shoulder, intending to walk away. Accidentally, though, my grip tightens as my glare falls on the fuckers approaching us.

“They’ve got balls the size of the Abandon.” He huffs out a laugh.

“Yeah, and brains the size of peas.”

“Creed…Sevryn.”

“What do you want?”

“Is Thayla—”
