She smiled. “I’m sure I could make you lose your mind, too.”
The image of her sucking his cock into her mouth rushed into his mind.
But then Emily yawned, trying to hide it by covering her mouth. He kissed her forehead. “Another time, lass. It’s been abusy night, but I’m hoping you’ll let me hold you before we go to sleep.”
She frowned. “Are you sure? I hate not reciprocating.”
He shook his head. “Watching you fall apart made me happy. My cock can wait for another time.”
His dragon grunted.I’m less patient.
Let’s not scare her, dragon.
Fine. But she should sleep with us every night.
“What’s your dragon saying?”
He lay down and motioned for her to come closer. Once she snuggled against his side, he wrapped an arm around her and replied, “Dragon halves are a wee bit more impatient, is all. But don’t worry, he’ll be fine.”
She was silent for a few seconds before saying, “I’m kind of sad that I’ll never experience what you have with a second personality inside your head.”
“Who knows, maybe one day you and Holbrook’s scientists will think of a way to awaken inner dragons inside humans.”
She glanced up at him. “Has he shared something about that?”
“No. But then again, most of his work and team are hush-hush, and they could be doing bloody anything they like.”
“Hmm. Maybe. But it would require a lot of discoveries, not to mention careful testing, if it could even be cleared for a trial phase. The mind and brain are delicate things. One wrong move, and it could turn someone into a perpetual vegetative state.”
He grunted. “True. I guess you’ll just have to settle for sharing my dragon. I know it’s not the same, and you can’t talk to him whenever you wish. But if you want to ask him things, I can either act as a go-between or let him take over my human form.”
“I’m kind of curious about why dragon-shifters don’t do that more often.”
“Well, those who have the proper training and control, like Protectors or clan leaders, could do it more often without worry. However, it’s usually easier to keep things separate. That way, the dragon doesn’t irritate or upset someone, leaving a mess that the human half has to clean up. But if they’re in their dragon form, then people kind of know what to expect.”
“It’s a more extreme version of keeping your work and your personal life separate, I suppose.” She rolled slightly to prop her chin on his chest and meet his gaze again. “So, what does your dragon think about most of the time?”
“That’s easy—food and sex.”
She snorted. “That doesn’t surprise me.”
He grinned, but his dragon spoke up before he could reply.I think of other things, too. Like flying.
Calm down, dragon. Your advice is essential most of the time. But it’s true, food and sex are the top two things you bring up.
Maybe. But only because you never allow us to have sex often. Tonight was a good first step. I can’t wait to take control and claim Emily.
Not yet, dragon. We need patience to win her over.
He huffed.I would never take advantage of or hurt Emily.
I know.
“Cam?” He met her gaze and focused as she asked, “Your dragon’s not upset with me, is he? I didn’t mean to offend him.”
“Of course not. All dragons get touchy sometimes, but you’re fine. We both only ever want you to be yourself.” He cupped her cheek. “Because Dr. Emily Davies is bloody brilliant, beautiful, and someone to be relied on.”
She searched his gaze. “How can you say that with so much confidence when I’ve been on Seahaven for barely a week?”
