She lets out a long, shuddering sigh, and falls asleep again in my arms, her mouth twisted into a happy smile.

Lia
“Wake up, brat! You have about five seconds to get your ass up… or I’ll get it up for you.”
Those words might not be everyone’s idea of a romantic start to the day, and well, I guess they don’t feel all that romantic to me either. But theydodefinitely get me wet and bothered, and isn’t that what counts?
I wriggle further under the covers, pushing a pillow over my head. I’m wearing Logan’s t-shirt and a pair of panties, though I hope I won’t be wearing them for much longer.
We’ve been here a few weeks only, but we’ve already settled into a happy rhythm. It’s similar to the one we had in Wyoming, but things feel more permanent here. I also get to sleep a whole lot more.
That doesn’t mean it doesn’t take a while for Logan to rouse me in the mornings. Maybe I’d be easier to rouse if the consequences to not waking up weren’t so… delicious.
Which is why I’m currently snuggling under the covers, fully awake, wondering what my punishment this morning will be.
I’m so busy wondering that I nearly jump out of my skin when I suddenly feel his hot breath in my ear. “Happy birthday, Lia.”
“Wh-what?”
“June 8th. It’s your birthday. Isn’t it?”
“Uhh…” I rub my eyes. “Is it?”
He chuckles. “Isn’tit?”
“Uhm, well, yeah, I guess. I can’t remember the last time I celebrated it, though.”
Liar. It was exactly three years ago. Right before you married Carmelo.
“Hmm. Well, from now on, you’ll be celebrating it again. Happy nineteenth birthday, ghost girl.”
He removes the pillow I’ve still got plastered over my head, and flips me onto my back. “Aren’t you going to make a wish?”
“Logan!”
I gape as I take in the three-tier cake with its nineteen candles. It looks like carrot cake, my favorite. I was wondering why Logan had bought so many carrots yesterday.
My heart is too swollen for words. I can’t believe Logan knew it was my birthday, or what my favorite cake is, or was thoughtful enough to plan this and keep it a secret.
When I at last manage to overcome my emotion, though, all I can think to say is, “Couldn’t you have found candles withnineteenwritten on them, instead of buying nineteen individual ones?”
I could kick myself for my sharp tongue, but he knows me by now. It’s a relief seeing that I haven’t hurt him. On the contrary, his mouth twists into a devilish grin.
“Well, it wouldn’t have been as much fun.”
“Huh?”
“I wanted to try something new.” Still grinning, he picks one of the flickering candles from the cake. “Make a wish. But don’t blow it out.”
“Uhm… okay.” I squeeze my eyes shut.
Please love me forever, Logan.
“Now, turn around.”
“Okay…”
