“Bigger predators than the river rat from Giants R’ Us? This place is crazy,” Lynx shakes his head in disbelief.

“Come on, Reaper.” I grab him as he growls and rips off a chunk of meat with him. “Let’s go see what else awaits us in Fae’s version of Hell.”

CHAPTER 41

The Shifter World

Knox

The questions keep coming, one after another, from the netherwraiths for Slayer, and so unlike him, he’s clammed up tighter than my asshole. He’s left me to fend off the masses, which means not doing shit. I don’t know what they are talking about, nor do I really care right now.

I have a psychotic female netherwraith that’s been on my tail, a moody Slayer, and I need these other voices in my head to disappear already.

‘Are you the Black Death?’

‘We’ve heard stories about you.

‘You’re actually real?’

‘Does this mean the Four Horsemen are back?’

‘Is this the end of times?’

I can’t take it anymore, so I force the shift back to my human form after we go through the portal. Normally, I’ll let Slayer pick when he wants to change back, but I don’t want to hear from the netherwraiths right now. Yes, they can still reach out, but it takesmore concentration and power to do so, and if they want to put that much energy into it, then that’s their problem, not mine.

Rez immediately comes over and grabs my hand, giving it a squeeze.

“Are you okay?” she asks, peering up into my green eyes with concern.

“I’m fine,” I’m quick to brush her off, but she digs her nails into my bicep and glares at me with tight lips.

“Just in case you forgot, we have a link.” She arches her eyebrows. “I can feel your irritation. Wanna talk about it now or later?”

I snort, shaking my head as I look over her head, watching as everyone else comes through the portal and spreads out. We’re no longer by a river, but we’re still in the Fae Realm, and if I had to guess, we’re on the southern border of the Summer Kingdom. Only because the sunset is known to turn a fiery red at dusk before the stars come out, and it’s a beautiful background behind Rez right now.

“So, what you’re saying is, I don’t have a choice. I am talking about it, it’s just a now or later situation, huh?” I look down into her gray eyes and find them challenging me back.

“Yes.”

One simple word, and she makes me want to sink deep into her, claiming and teaching her a lesson about challenging me all in one movement.

‘You forgot another positive to add to that list,’Slayer adds, and I get a visual of the purple netherwraith with the yellow-tipped tail and ears. Oh yeah, the cat in heat that’s trying to claim me. I’m hit by a scent that makes my stomach churn, and I look up, finding that said shifter lurking by with her eyes on us.

I didn’t want to worry Rez, but in this realm, netherwraith females can and normally initiate the mate bond between the shifters. The fact that this one is throwing off the strongestpheromones around me doesn’t bode well for Rez and me when it comes to not causing drama.

Maybe if this she-devil sees that I’m already mated, she’ll get the hint and move on. I turn to Rez and wrap my hands around her waist, pulling her closer to me.

“You keep challenging me, and I’ll have to put you in your place,” I warn.

Rez bites down on her lip as another scent hits me, and my resolve snaps. Throwing her over my shoulder, I snap out an order, “Tell Lynx you’re with me,” I demand, trusting him to relay the message and the others to give us space. She giggles as I smack her ass a few times, chuckling when Lynx gets his news.

“Aww man, really? Why is he getting to have all the fun?” he whines.

“Not so fast, Alpha,” Ryker shouts, and footsteps quickly approach. Ryker raises his hands in surrender but shoots me a pleading look. “You wouldn’t deny a starving Incubus his meal, would you? Promise just to watch this time.” He winks.

Ah, so he’s hungry and doesn’t want to intrude, guessing right that I need to get away from everyone. I nod and tap into Slayer’s knowledge of the Fae land, to hopefully sneak away.

‘Yes, babygirl is all ours. We don’t share our toys, especially when we need to claim what is ours for everyone to know,’Slayer purrs in agreement as he leads us deeper into the woods.
