“Actually, about that.” I move out from behind the bar with my finger in the air and stand before the guys. I quickly put back on my glasses before continuing. “Remember that theory I was working on back in Purgatory about using parts of Lilith’s essence and our sperm?”
“No!” They say in unison, the shock clear in their voices as they realize what I’ve accomplished.
“Yes. Lucy is carrying Lilith’s and my child. Her essence with my biological makeup.”
“So let me get this straight,” Jessup says, turning to face me with his hands on his hips. “Adam betrayed Lilith and stabbed her with a God-blessed dagger and threw her to the seventh level of Hell. Then he somehow tricked us into believing it was her that tore out our hearts and told us to leave. L.A.M.B. rescued her, Anwen gave her a prophecy that said she needed to find us STAT, you two made up, and now we have less than 48 hours to make up with our homicidal ex-mate, that’s not really our ex?”
“Yep,” I enthusiastically nod.
“Great!” Jessup throws his arms up in the air.
I’m confused, shouldn’t he be happy?
“She’ll skin my beast and use me as a rug,” Jessup says and then motions between Daniel and Matthew. “And your balls? She’ll probably use them as paper weights and earrings. There’s no possibility in all the levels of Hell that there’s a way to make this up to her,” he says and picks up the bottle of Everclear before he downs the rest of it. “She’ll never forgive us for what she went through,” he mutters, picking at his nails.
Oh yeah. They’re fucked.
Visible shudders run through Matthew, and Daniel turns a shade whiter as Jessup's words sink in.
“I’m sorry I didn’t believe you, Carl. We should have taken what you were saying seriously at the time,” Matthew’s voice cracks with remorse.
“We fucked up. Sorry, Steinbeck,” Daniel grumbles.
“Yeah. We should have believed you when you were so adamant about Lilith not doing that. We’re sorry,” Jessup’s raspy voice says as he gives me a haunted look.
I nod, accepting their apologies and finally having my convictions recognized.
“Well, I’m glad we’ve all apologized to Steinbeck, but I’m still fucked. I like my balls, so I need a solution. It’s no secret that I’m only with Lanna because she got knocked up and is carrying my heir. Other than that, I would have been over and done with her,” Daniel admits, turning on his phone. His lip curls in disgust as he looks at his phone and sees a message ping from said woman.
I guess this is the best time to bring up what Lilith is working on in the lab. Granted it’s up to the guys to decide if they will go through with it or not, but it will go a long way in getting back on Lilith’s good side.
“There is one thing that you could do that would allow you to keep your balls,” I say nonchalantly as I clean my glasses.
“Geez, man. Still killing us with the theatrics. You should have gone into drama instead of medicine,” Daniel throws out.
Ignoring his comment, I continue, “Lilith was ecstatic that my theory actually worked and Lucy is bearing our child. She only wished that I would have done that for you all so your girlfriends were carrying hers as well.”
The guys look away from me and won’t catch my eyes. I sigh before I continue, “I didn’t say that to make you feel bad—in fact—just the opposite. One of the reasons why Lilith stayed back is to work on something, in the hope that you will allow her to give your unborn children her essence so they can have a piece of her also.”
“Is there really a chance that can work?” Matthew glances at me, hope shining through his hazel eyes.
My eyes roll before I give him a disbelieving look. “I can’t believe you don’t trust me or my word. How long have you known me?” I question.
“Too long,” Jessup mumbles as he leans back in a chair, sipping from a bottle of jack.
When did he sit down?
I’m not sure he’ll be able to stand up, let alone walk out of here, by the way he’s drinking tonight.
“I heard that,” I give him a pointed look.
“You were meant to,” he states, grinning at me.
“So, our children could be a part of Lilith instead of the women we’re with now?” Daniel asks. “Please, Fates, don’t be pulling my leg on this one.”
“Yes, they can. I could go on and explain how magical essence works if you’d like. It really is fascinating.” I reach for a chair to get comfortable. “There’s a wh—”
“No!” They all say in unison.
