The bedding doesn’t stop me from hearing him chuckle as he walks off while saying, “Better than sorrow and pity.”
Ugh. I don’t know what’s worse—wallowing in self-pity or not being able to.
ChapterFifteen
ILLUSIONS R US
Lynx
There’s a loud creaking sound that echoes around the room. Man, someone needs to oil those damn hinges already.Rez?My mind wanders as I feel something poking my side.Ugh. Really? Who wants to die now? I’m trying to get my beauty sleep here.
“Lynx?” A voice I haven’t heard in almost a decade filters through my muddy thoughts.
Damn, since when do I think of Milf’s in my dreams?
I’d rather think of my Rezzi-bear all lathered up with suds giving me a come hither look as she crooks her finger at me. My smirk is the only thing I’m wearing as I swagger over, letting my elephant-sized cock swing back and forth.I mean, why not. I’m hung like one, might as well walk with pride and own that shit, right!
Now, this is the type of dream I'm looking to have.
“Lynx, wake up!”
Startling awake, I peer up into gray-green eyes that I thought I would never see again.
“H–H–Holy shit! I’m dead?” I sputter out, blinking my eyes in hopes of clearing my vision.
“Does it look like you’re dead?” The ghost of Jillian snaps, gritting her teeth in frustration.
Glancing down I notice my skin has lost some color, but I’m human again. I’m a real boy! I wonder if my dick will grow if I tell a lie like that puppet man in that Disney movie. Man, I need to get my lying game on point.
“Well, we both could use a little sun, and the fact that you’re in front of me instead of in a coffin six-feet under back in Indiana, I would say, yeah… we’re dead,” I deadpan, feeling justified in my reasoning.
Blowing out an exasperated breath, she angrily wipes her hair off her sweaty forehead. She stands to her full height and starts mumbling to herself. I take a moment to look around the room I’m currently in. This is the first time I’ve been lucid in a while, judging by how stiff I feel and the fact that I can’t remember how I got here.
The room, if you can even call it that, has no windows or furniture besides the small table and chair. The whole place smells earth-like. Have I been buried in a coffin? Ugh. What a horrible thought. The walls and floor are made of rough stone, and there on the far side is a door in the rock that I can barely make out with my superior eyesight.
So that explains the rusty hinges I heard.
It seems that whoever has my furry little ass, put me in a cage, and it’s a decent size I must admit. These bars go all the way up to the ceiling. Luckily they gave me some bedding and a pillow. Hmm. Not monsters after all. Way to go bad guys.
How do I know they are bad guys, you might ask?
Well, they obviously took me from my Rezzi-bear, and anything that fucks with my woman is asking to lose a limb or anything that hangs, so maybe their nuts and definitely their fucking lives.
“What are you even doing here? You’re supposed to be taking care of Rez!” Jillian accuses me as she arches an eyebrow. Like I chose this life. Yep, that's what I did. I waved a big fucking flag for these fuckers to come and abduct me from my mate. I’m that type of douche canoe. I think she has me confused with the Incubus. He seems like the type to do something like that.
I nonchalantly lean back on the pillow, resting my arms behind my head. “Well, duh. I thought I would take a break and get in some ‘me time,’” I purr.
“Damnit, Lynx. This is not the time to play around!” Jillian spits out, glaring at me.
Moving faster than her eyes can track, I’m up and at the bars. “This coming from a woman who faked her death!? A woman that allowed her daughter to grieve for her, when all the while she was hiding out in Purgatory. A mother who didn’t allow me to even be there for my fucking mate by cursing me so I couldn’t change forms. Don’t lecture me on being there for her, especially when you weren’t during your so-called fucking death,” I growl.
My knuckles turn white from the rage I’m holding back, when all I can imagine is them wrapping snuggly around Jillian’s throat. My gums burn as they partially shift, baring sharp canines. An intense growl resonates deep from within me as if something primal wants to be released.
Wait. Why am I feeling this way?
I pry myself away from the bars, shaking the fury from my limbs.
“I didn’t fake my death, Lynx. Do you really think I would put Nerezza through all that pain?” she pleads, but it falls on deaf ears. This is a woman who made her daughter think she was nuts after all, and the annoyed look on my face is my answer to that. “Look, I don’t know what happened once I was knocked out and taken. The first time I woke up, I found myself in a cage much like the one you’re in, but I was in Hell. And time works differently there.” She shudders at her own words.
