I know what they’re going to try. The nurse wants to distract me so the fucker with the belly button dick can try and detain me. I don’t trust any of them, I want them both in my sites, so I turn my head a little bit, and that’s when they strike.

The soldier is lying down on the ground in a pool of blood, but he’s breathing. A couple comrades of his run in and slide him away from my reach. I don’t move to follow him. Rezzi is my priority, and these shit stains are fucking with her healing.
‘I scream in silence,’Rez says, and my heart breaks for her.
‘I can hear you, Rezzi. I’m here. Let me take your pain.’I try sending her soothing thoughts to carry away her suffering. Still, it’s hard to concentrate when a tidal wave comes crashing into the room, soaking it instantly.
Well, JP is here. I guess that means my work is just about to start.Sorry Rezzi, but if they try to touch you… I’ll have to kill your friends.I watch as Levi makes the first move towards me. His hands up like I’m a hurt animal. I’m not hurt, Pocahontas, I’m pissed! Hopefully, you’ll forgive me.

I inch closer only because I need the range if I’m not physically touching him. But I swear, he’s not trying to hurt her. Raising my hands, his humor smacks me in the chest, followed by anger and sorrow. He growls, and I freeze.Shit. What was his name again?
“Help, I forgot his name,” I say, to anyone in the room that will answer, and humor comes flying off of the tiger again.
“Lynx. But be careful, Levi. I’ve never seen him act like this before,” Moni says. Backing up, she hovers next to JP to give me room to do my thing. Dr. Steinbeck and Ryker run back in, but Zeke rushes over to fill them in.
Lynx. Okay, let’s see if this works. Damnit. I wish Knox was here. He’s good at communicating with animals, not me.
“Lynx, we just want to help, but I think our form of helping would actually harm Nerezza, right?” I ask.
His happiness and relief flows for me to pick up.
“Okay, so that’s an affirmative,” I murmur.
One of the soldiers that are still ready to step in scoffs, “What would a dumb pet know anyway?”
Red hot fury knocks me back as Lynx growls, his fur standing straight up in warning.
“Guys, I know this is unconventional, but put down your weapons and leave the tiger where he is,” I tell everyone. Backing up myself, I look over at the officers getting back up from the floor where JP knocked them down.
Looking to Dr. Steinbeck, it’s ultimately his call, but since we haven’t tried to reach Rez, Lynx hasn’t attacked anyone.
“Do as Leviathan says. If she dies, it’s on him.” With the decision made and final, he moves away from us to tend to the staff who have now become patients.
That didn’t go exactly how I planned it, but it has calmed Lynx down, and hopefully, no one else will lose any more blood or their limbs. And if he’s right, there may be hope for Rez. Please let me be right.

Everyone backs away, and I notice Lynx stumbles a little bit. He looks hurt, even though I don’t see a mark on him. Concerned, I look around and spot a bedpan.Well, that will have to work.Upsizing, I tear it out of the wrapper and fill it with water before slowly approaching Lynx. As I get closer to him, I try getting his attention so he isn’t startled.
