‘What makes you think I started it, Lynx? She’s been a bitch ever since I got here. She can’t be mad at me for being pulled here supposedly by a damn door.’
Out of my peripheral, I notice Zeke giving me a thoughtful look, but I focus on my menu. A few moments pass before I give up and lay it down. I have to blink and rub my eyes, trying to focus back on the offending plastic. “Hey, Zeke. What’s up with the menu?” I point at the offending object. The words are swirling, and some symbols keep moving, and I definitely can’t read the freaking thing.
More concerned for me now, he puts down his own menu and picks up mine. “I don’t see anything wrong. Tell me what you’re seeing.”
I explain how I can’t read it, and it looks like sections are moving. Zeke laughs and gives me a pitying look.
“This must not be a thing back on Earth, sorry. Here, you have to run your fingers over the letters so they know what four languages to cycle through for you. Since you haven’t picked, it’s scrolling through all the languages. To order, just touch the word and say it in Latin. It helps keep us from being rusty in our languages,” he says.
“Or helps starve you,” I say under my breath, and Zeke chuckles. Damn his supernatural hearing.
With that settled, he orders food for us and spends the next ten minutes running over the menu for me and teaching me some simple words so I don’t starve to death the next time I’m here alone.
My chicken salad appears at the table out of nowhere, right as JP and Levi join us. They take seats next to Zeke, and thankfully it’s on my right side, which is now my good side.Wow, never thought I would say that before. After a reassuring look from Zeke, I dig in with gusto. Levi picks up his menu, and JP hands Zeke a chocolate smoothie to drink along with his meal.
“Oh, I didn’t see that on the menu,” I whine. “Did you keep that section out of the training on purpose?” I pout. Zeke’s eyes go wide, and he starts stammering until I smile and giggle. It’s not fair though, I really love smoothies, probably more than chocolate.
‘Or dick.’Lynx chimes in.‘Remember how you left Jones with blue balls because you heard someone ask outside of the bedroom if anyone wanted one?’
‘In my defense, Lynx, Jones couldn’t find my clit even if it was on my forehead. I was doing him a favor,’I say.
Did I mention how annoying it is that Lynx knows all my secrets? He could probably tell you how often I shit in a day too. It’s three, which is normal. Go look it up.
“Sorry, ma chéri, but this is a special smoothie I make for Zeke,” JP says, picking up his water and taking a sip.
I furrow my brows, trying to think about why it’s special.
“A special smoothie?” I say slowly to no one in particular.
‘He’s a VAMPIRE, Rez.’Lynx says, smacking me with his tail.
“OH!” I look over at Zeke, and I feel my cheeks blush. “Um, sorry.”
The guys laugh at me, though Levi is too deep in his phone to join in. At this moment he looks completely content, but part of me wonders if he ever feels lonely. Deciding I’m going to pull him out of his shell, I go to reach out and say something, but Zeke catches my arm.
“Don’t. I’ll explain later. It’s a waste of time, trust me.” He gives me a reassuring smile at my look of confusion. Not wanting to be left out of the conversation, JP walks around my seat and pulls me up from the chair before he grabs my hand to spin me around—and that’s when all hell breaks loose.

“Iwant her fucking blood!” A feminine voice shrieks.
I would know that annoying sound anywhere. JP abruptly stops spinning me around and looks at where Emer’s shrill noise is filtering from down the hall. The whole room falls silent, and a few people look my way with concern. Well, I guess some individuals knew what happened between us. Lynx changes into his… well, lynx form, and comes to stand next to me.Protective mode activated.
Emer comes stomping into the room, and she’s a sight. Her long ears are taped up in white bandages, and blood has seeped through them. Her hair is still looking a mess from where I pulled it out of her scalp, and most of it is out of her high ponytail. I can even see the faint red along her cheeks where I might have tried to scratch her eyes out.
Hmm. Did Dr. Steinbeck not patch her up like he did me?
I’m stuck between smirking in pleasure and seeing red. I can only imagine the look on my face is of that GIF of the little girl smirking evilly. She’s so my spirit animal right now.
The crowd parts, eager to be out of the line of her warpath. Unobscured now, Emer spots me immediately and heads in my direction, yelling, “YOU BITCH!”
Would it be petty of me to say she started it? Yes. Yes, it would.
“You started it. I just finished it, Emer,” I slowly walk her way, and she continues to make an ass out of herself while she huffs and puffs.
