“There was someone else there. A girl—”
“Yes, I already know this Knox. Thanks for your report. Now, Captain Brooks,” dad interrupts me. He turns his attention to Captain Brooks on his other side, blowing me off.
“She was on the Sulks,” I blurt out and hold my breath for the fallout.
The entire room goes deadly quiet for a moment before it erupts into chaos. Everyone has various looks of disbelief and anger filtering around the room as they all call me out for lying.
“There’s no way!” a voice shouts.
“You must have seen it wrong.”
“That’s bullshit.”
“ENOUGH!” Dad roars. The room goes silent once more as his Alpha power rises to the surface, but I can still see the accusations in their eyes, all but Capt. Brooks. A quick meaningful look, but it’s now gone. I could have sworn I saw curiosity peak in his eyes but it happened so fast, that I might have imagined it.
“Knox, that’s impossible. I know your Gryphon has far superior eyesight, but maybe from your angle you saw wrong?” I know he’s giving me a way out and I would be stupid not to take it, especially in public. A part of me wants to fight because I know I’m not wrong, but to challenge my Alpha now, would be stupid. Yes, he’s my father, but to show any amount of defiance would lead me to the bottom of the totem pole during the blood matches where everyone would have the chance to fight me. No matter how strong I am, I can’t keep up with non-stop fighting. I quickly nod that he’s right and he reaches over and squeezes my shoulder dismissing me.
Reaching the door, my instincts tell me to look back and I see Brooks with a smug smile on his face.Fucker!
The more I think about being dismissed like that and Brooks smug ass face, the more my temper flares. He’s always been a thorn in my side, trying to kiss father’s ass and getting me to look bad in front of everyone. He’s been trying to make a play that I’m not good enough for my role. The burning embers ignite into a full blown inferno by the time I get back to the Academy and walk out from the Admin building’s basement. I place my permanent scowl back on my face and take off down the halls with my powerful strides. The students and faculty part like a hot knife cutting butter with my alpha power that’s radiating off of me. Being an alpha does have its perks. When I make it to the front of the building in no time, I catch Levi at the bottom of the steps.
“Hey!” I growl out. I need answers because Iknowwhat I saw. If anyone would know who Moni was hanging around with, it was Levi. Since his dad was the Dean, he had the inner track in knowing what new students were at the school and who is more than likely to befriend Moni.
Levi turns around smiling at me until I get closer for him to pick up on my emotions. He furrows his brows in confusion as I snarl again. My body feels like it’s close to exploding. My animals close to the surface fighting for dominance, not knowing which one is about to spring forward and take over.
“Hello Knox,” he says hesitantly as I continue stomping up to him. Stopping within arm's length of him, I grunt and he reaches out, grabbing my arm. “What’s wrong?”
Before I can growl out my answer, a calming wave engulfs me, alleviating my anger.
“Breathe Knox,” Levi soothes.
Taking in a deep breath, I close my eyes and let it out slowly, feeling the tension run out of my body. Opening my eyes, I find Levi giving me a reassuring smile. I nod my thanks and he steps back, releasing my arm. “Now, what can I do for you?” He asks, fixing his cufflinks.
Scoffing at him always being so formal, I walk up and give him a slap on the back. I watch as he scowls at me as I jostle him. I can’t help it, it makes me smile picking on my big brother. He’s only a few months older than me, but it still counts.
We start walking towards the cafeteria for lunch. “Can you give me any information on a new person that might have befriended Moni in Survival class?” I ask, matching my pace with his.
“Why would I know about that? I’m not in her class. In fact, don’t you have that class with her?” He questions me.Gah. Why does this have to be so hard?
“Look, dad pulled me for another scouting mission and I wasn’t in class, but I was just looking for information on a new student.” I sigh. Yanking at my hair in frustration, Levi places his hand on my shoulder sending me another soothing wave and I let out another deep breath as we reach the cafeteria doors.
“Relax and enjoy lunch. I’m sure you can just ask her later,” he states as he pulls out his phone.Well, Fuck!I’ll have to figure this mystery out myself then, because I know I’m not crazy.
Chapter Nineteen
Moody Little Shits
Zeke
Nervous energy courses through me as I watch the door of the cafeteria, waiting for Rez. Not only am I dying to hear about her classes so far, I just want to see her.God, I’m such a sap. Shaking my head at the thought, I can’t help but smile. I would gladly be a sap for her.
It’s like the Fates have sent her to me, ever since she fell out of the sky and into my life. Well, lap, if we’re being technical. I know it sounds crazy, but she’s like the yin to my yang. Being around her feels like I’m getting a natural calming effect to my crazy highs and lows. Like the best drug one can ask for.
Not having any classes with her this morning has completely thrown me for a loop, though, but at least she’s in my elective today after lunch. I can’t wait to show her around the computer lab.
“Z, stop it already,” Ryker says through gritted teeth. He looks down at my bouncing leg, asking, not for the first time, for me to stop. Oops. Didn’t realize I was shaking the table.
Spotting Levi and Knox walking in, my heart rate kicks up, and I sit up straighter in anticipation of seeing my woman. Rez should be walking in soon. She had the same class as Knox, if I remember her class schedule correctly, but I had only gotten a brief glimpse of his yesterday. Pfft. What am I saying? I have a photographic memory. Of course, I have it down. Does that make me creepy? Probably, but at least now I’ll fit the Vampire profile of being a stalker in the night.
