"Goodnight, Drew."

I smile.

He'll never know I was here.

And then I slip out the way I came, activating his alarm system again.

I climb into my car, parked far enough away that he won’t see it. Close enough that I can still see him.

I check the cameras on the app on my phone.

They’re working.

I can’t resist one final peek.

He’s still asleep.

As I start my car, a long sigh slips out.

Tomorrow can't come fast enough.

DREW

I arriveat her house ten minutes early.

Which is ridiculous. Because this is not a date.

It's just...

Two people.

Going to the movies.

Alone.

On a Friday night.

It just happens to look exactly like one.

I check my watch.

6:50 p.m.

“Just be normal,” I mutter, tugging at my collar.

I tap my fingers against the steering wheel, wondering if I should text Violet to let her know I'm here.

The front door opens… and my mind goes blank.

Violet steps out like she already knew exactly when I’d arrive. Like she knew I’d be early.

She doesn’t rush. Just walks toward the car with that calm confidence that makes it feel like she’s the one who set this whole thing in motion.

I get out before I can think too hard about it.

“Hey,” I say.
