“So are you.” Her voice is deeper and slightly raspy.

My skin hums from her nearness. And even though I’m very aware of her beside me, I’m more relaxed than I’ve been in a long time.

“I’ve known you’re special. Magical. Incredible.” Her smile widens. “Long before tonight.”

My brows raise. How does she know?—

“Since that night in the bar, I knew you were special.”

The bar.

Right.

She holds up her keys. “Wanna drive?”

I blink, trying to comprehend her question. “Seriously?”

She lifts a shoulder in a shrug, like it’s no big deal that she’s offering to let me drive her Porsche. “Sure.”

Maybe it's the wine.

Maybe it's finally feeling seen.

Whatever it is... I stop acting like myself.

My hand grips her waist, and I pull her flush with my body. I pluck the keys from her hand, smiling down at her surprised, yet delighted, expression. “Absolutely.”

Then my lips lightly graze hers.

She releases a soft sigh, and I nearly lose control.

But faint voices in the distance remind me where we are.

I pull back, my mouth still close to hers. “Come on. Let’s get out of here.”

I release her, then grab her hand, intertwining our fingers.

“I have an idea,” I say as her heels click against the blacktop.

“You do?” She looks up at me, a look of reverence on her face. “I’m all ears.”

“Why don’t we get some ice cream and go to your place... maybe watch a movie?” My voice lowers slightly. “I’m not ready for tonight to end.”

“I like that idea… a lot.”

I open her car door, then lift her hand and kiss her knuckles. “I knew you would.” I lean over her, snapping her seatbelt into place. “I know you better than you think, Violet Quinn.”

Something flickers in her eyes.

She laughs, then slides into her seat. “You think?”

I shrug. “I got the ice cream and movie correct, didn’t I?”

Her laugh follows me around the car.

I smile to myself as I walk around the hood.

I may not know her as well as she knows me, but I'm getting there.
