I laugh and help her to the door. She shoos me away from there, so I go back to the bed. Moments later, she comes back, climbing into bed as she cuddles up next to my side.
“I meant every word, Rain. I love you,” I whisper to her.
She looks up at me, only the moonlight illuminating the room.
“I know. I love you too.”
I lean in and kiss her softly.
“So does this mean you will stop giving me so much sass?” I ask, keeping my tone low.
She lets out a soft laugh. “In your dreams, lover boy.”
I smile as I rest my lips against her temple.
“Good. I don’t know what I would do without your sass. I find it a huge turn-on.”
She opens one eye, giving me a look. “You can’t be serious. You like when I’m mean to you?”
I shrug. “Call me a masochist. I enjoy every jab you throw my way. You challenge me in ways I never thought I would enjoy.”
“You’ve obviously never met a bitch like me before then,” she jokes.
I cup her cheek until her eyes are open and she is staring at me.
“I have. I’ve met girls who use their sass as weapons, and never, not once, have they made me feel close to the way I feel for you. It’s not your attitude, your sass, or whatever else you think it is. It is whatever uniquely makes up you. I love every single part of you.”
She sucks in a breath. “Careful, Ridge. You might make a girl do something stupid, like go and fall in love with you.”
“You already said you love me, Rain. There are no takebacks. It’s a forever thing.”
She smiles up at me softly. “I guess I did. Now I have to keep you. How terrible.”
“The worst. Wait until you see how messy I really am.” I press a kiss to her nose.
“Yeah, right. Don’t think I don’t notice that you keep cleaning up behind me when I’ve been making bread. I think you might have some unresolved issues that require therapy.”
I tickle her, making her giggle.
“Keep it up, and I will punish you again. Think you can take some more orgasms?” I ask.
She pushes me over onto my back before climbing onto my lap.
“Only one way to find out.”
CHAPTER
TWENTY-THREE
Rain
My phone pingswith a text as I pack up my desk to leave for the day. Once my drawers are locked, I look at my phone.
My heart skips for a second when I see a text from Mr. Cohen.
Dad’s Lawyer
Good evening, Rain and Ridge. I’m sorry to bother you two, but if you could stop by before the end of the day, we have something we need to urgently discuss.
