It is the dumbest yet sweetest thing I have ever seen in my life.

“You’re an idiot, but fuck, I love you.”

I jump into his arms, making him catch me as I kiss him.

It’s true. I love the man, and I’m never letting him go.

Ridge

After we left the district attorney’s office, I asked Rain if she wanted to go for a ride.

She said yes without hesitation.

I’m nervous, though. While she thinks this is a random ride through the back roads, we actually have a destination in mind. I have an idea for her, but I don’t want her to freak out about it.

I hope she likes it.

It takes us over an hour to get to the place, but she doesn’t complain. Instead, she burrows closer to me, her hands splayed across my abs like they were meant to be there. Every chance I get, I touch her leg, needing her to feel me as much as I feel her.

When we finally arrive at our destination, I pull over and turn off the bike.

After helping her from it, I smile as she takes her helmet off and shakes her hair out. I know some men want models or actresses, but there will never be anyone in the world more beautiful than Rain. She’s it for me.

“This is a nice place for a break. The ride was amazing. It feels nice to feel the wind in my hair without having to look over my shoulder.”

I smile at her. “At least for a little while.”

See, one of the things we did on our end to ensure our safety was to put someone outside the club on Hampton to track him. Right now, he is downtown at his office, hopefully getting his ass chewed.

It means we have a few days of peace.

I look around at the piece of land. There are trees all around, blocking what we are really here for from view.

“Come with me.”

She giggles as I pull her into the field. I love hearing her sound so carefree. That’s what’s been missing the past several weeks.

As I continue to lead her through the woods, I think about how we got here. How Mustang must have known what this could be if we both had gotten out of our heads and let it.

Thank you for trusting me with her. I won’t let her down. I promise, brother.I send up the quick prayer to him, hoping he can hear it on the other side.

Then we step into the clearing, and I hear her gasp. It’s a beautiful meadow. One that they wrote poems about.

“What is this place?” she asks.

“The first piece of property I ever bought,” I tell her.

“It’s beautiful.”

I smile, seeing it through her eyes. It really is beautiful, but I always imagined something else here. A home.

“I know we might not have started conventionally, but I love you, Rain. I am so beyond glad I made you my wife and my old lady. This piece of land has always been the land I planned to build a home on. Maybe not our forever home—your dad’s place will be that for us—but a summer home. Somewhere we can get away when things back there get to be too much. A place untouched by the outside world.”

She turns, taking my hands in hers. “I love that idea, but nothing too big. I would hate to disturb such beauty.”

This is why I love her.

“A small cabin. I have it all laid out in my head. You want the tour?”
