CHAPTER 45

Awakening

Oni

Back to the present …

He’s back. The one with the scent I recognize. Every time I try to wake up, he’s here.

I know he’s not Rico. I established that the last few times I tried to become fully conscious. What I have managed to figure out is that Rico is hurt.

He’s not with me because he’s hurt. I still feel like I have something important to tell him. I want to wake up so I can remember what.

“Still nothing?” One of the other males who keeps coming in and out says.

“Oogatz,” my watcher says.

“Marone, Mario is sick about it. Emilia can’t stop crying. Rico is going to be pissed when he finds out Romano and the Sullivans got away.”

The other guy sighs. “They may have gotten out of the fire, but they’re not getting out of the city. Alyissa Romano’s luck has run out when it comes to her great escapes.

“Her father wasn’t as lucky. He didn’t see me coming. All he saw was a guy in a wheelchair.

“I blew a hole right through his chest. Clearing the rest of the room was light work for Mario and Emilia. Emilia might be in tears now, but Oni and Rico would be damn proud of her,” he scoffs.

“Your idea was brilliant. To hit both places at once. Rico and Ed may have taken hits, but it worked out for the best.

“Romano wanted a war; he got one. He needed to go down. He’s been a problem for years if you ask me.”

“Yeah, we should have done him regardless of the green light. Made or not, he was a piece of shit.”

Fredo. That’s Fredo and his scent. He’s the one keeping watch.

Alyissa Romano, Lorcan and Mason Sullivan, that’s who took me. Suddenly, I’m hit with another fragment of a memory.

My stomach is cramping again as I wake. I’m on an old mattress in the same room as before. I’m still restrained, but my hands are now secured above my head.

I try to focus and look around as I hear a clinking sound and something rustling. Not able to focus my eyes, I begin to take a mental note of my body.

My ankles are no longer bound. However, my legs and lower half feel cooler than the rest of my body. The mattress dips under the weight of something other than me.

“I’ve waited so fucking long for this.”

Panic shoots through me and I start to kick and buck like crazy. My foot connects with something, causing a howl to fill the air. I keep kicking in that direction to see if I can make a connection again.

“Fucking bitch.”

The sound of a door crashing open fills the air and the lights come on. The light stings my eyes, and I have to snap them shut as pain blasts through my head.

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”

“Emory,” I murmur, still not able to open my eyes.

“Get the fuck out and mind your damn business.”

The sound of a gun cocking catches my ears. “The only one leaving this room is you. I’m not allowing you to rape her, Lorcan. Get out, you sick bastard.”

“Is that why he called you here? To watch over this slut while I keep him busy. She’s a whore.
