The front door, myfront door, was closed when I got there. I took a giddy breath and knocked, suddenly uncertain.
Henrik opened it just a crack. ‘Not today, thanks,’ he said, slamming it shut.
I laughed and knocked again. ‘Let me in!’
It seemed to reopen by itself, and the cabin was warm and glowing. Henrik had already fired up the wood burner and was pouring out two glasses of champagne.
My eyes lit up. ‘Where did you get that?’ I whispered.
‘The boat stash,’ he said. ‘It’s for special occasions.’
‘Are we about to have a special occasion?’
‘We’re already having one,’ he said, sending me all wobbly again. ‘This is it.’ He handed me a glass and kept eye contact as we clinked. Slow dancing, fast running, and now this painfully slow conversation. The delayed gratification was killing me. How was he doing this? With Mark everything was immediate. Fast and done, then on to the next thing. My body tingled as I waited for him to make his move. This was new territory for me. I was used to planning ahead, always knowing exactly what was going to happen next. What I was going to do and say and when. But I didn’t need to control this, and I didn’t want to. I wanted to wait and see. Henrik had this mesmerising effect on me. A way of reducing me to a mumbling, quivering wreck with his eyes.
He stroked my face, his lips on mine as he wound my hair around his hand and tipped my head back. I unbuttoned hisshirt, my hands on his chest as I turned and kissed his neck. I wanted to feel his skin on my skin and his body on mine. Now. The clock bleeped to tell me it was midnight, and I made my full moon wish.
Dear Moon, I wish to have the best sex of my life. Right now. Do not let me down.
