Joker stares up at me defiantly, as his honey scent winds around me, as if he expects me to take advantage of his secret in the worst way.

I recoil, paling.

Wrong reaction.

But I can’t take it back now.

Joker blinks away tears.

I understand the shame that is blushing his cheeks pink because I have lived in its shadow my entire life.

I think back to how attracted I was to Joker in the hotel bar.

Was he using his Omega pheromones on me? Is that how he lures his marks by tricking people with his Beta appearance, while underneath he is a seductive Omega?

I have never used my Omega side on my missions, but it is meant to be irresistible — too tempting to resist.

I surprise Joker by swinging myself hurriedly off him, instead of pressing my advantage. “Don’t even think about using your Rogue Powers. They won’t work on me but they will piss me off.”

“Noted.” Sweat slips down Joker’s forehead. He’s avoiding my gaze. “Why don’t you take this opportunity to escape? I can’t fight you. I’ll tell you where the keys are.”

I narrow my eyes. “Why?”

He grits his teeth. “Just leave.”

Bird grabs another blanket, building the nest more firmly around Joker. “We can’t leave him by himself when he is like this, Ro.”

“I’ve suffered through heats alone all my life,” I reply.

Bird’s expression darkens. “Does that make it right? You know how agonizing and dangerous it is. Plus, he’s probably been pulled into this heat because of his closeness to you.”

I blink. “Why me?”

Bird’s expression softens. “Don’t you think his Omega could be your scent match?”

The intoxicating honey scent…

I reach over Joker to snatch Bird’s hand. “You’re my soulmate.”

“I am. But who knows if Switches are different and have multiple soulmates?”

“Hey, I’m lying right here.” Joker waves his hand. “Just grab me some water and put it on the nightstand. I’ll get through it. I’m tough.”

“I’m sure you are.” I study the way that Joker is tugging at the collar of his shirt. I bat his hands away, before unbuttoning the shirt for him. He whines with relief. “When will your Alpha be back?”

Bird helps to lift Joker up, and I manage to slip the shirt off him. Sweat drips between the defined muscles of his chest and down his abs.

His trousers are already soaked in sweet smelling slick.

I am lightheaded.

Dizzy with desire.

I can sense myself being pulled into a primal rut.

Why is Joker affecting me this much?

I need to knot him.
