Connor waves the will in the air. Seeing him barge through those doors like a cowboy in a Western makes my heart flutter.

“Caterina has been named head of the Ricci family. Every word she says is true.” He points at my brother. “And Nino is not only the liar here, but he’s also the man who killed Eduardo. His own father. The only title he’ll ever hold again is murderer!”

Connor storms the altar, with Finn and a man I assume is Brody hard on his heels. An army of Irish Kings brings up the rear.

I have extended family as well it seems.

For a grown orphan, this is beyond a dream.

Just as my watery eyes meet Connor’s, mayhem breaks out in the church.

I seek out Danny. “Get Charlie to the?—!”

Nino presses a gun to my back and drags me, stumbling, off the pulpit.

Chapter 38

Connor

Pocketing the will, I dart in the direction Nino dragged Cat, but Belinski cuts me off and pops me in the face with one of his kettlebell fists.

My nose sprays blood.

The bastard. That was my only facial feature to escape all the damage from earlier.

I dodge his next blow by rushing him.

He punches the air behind my head.

Surprise, sucker.

On my way to a crouch, I jab two fingers into the notch at the base of his neck between his collarbones. If I could reach in there and yank out his trachea, I would, but I’ll settle for temporarily disarming him.

He coughs, bending over and gasping for air.

I use the opportunity to knee him in the nose—fair is fair—on the way down.

His blood sprays my joggers and shirt as the massive brute covers his face with his hands.

Out of the corner of my eye, I spy Finn’s army of Kings converging on the rabid Russian and know they’ll handle him.

Ascending the stairs leading to the altar in one big leap, I circle around multiple clusters of Riccis fighting Riccis, past the pulpit, and out the side door into a hallway.

Nino has Cat in a chokehold at the base of a flight of stairs.

She’s kicking and screaming, struggling with everything she’s got. “Nino, it’s over! It’s not too late to do the right thing!”

“Fuck you and your righteous bullshit!”

I can see a gun tucked into Cat’s waistband.

Nino has one too.

Which begs the question, why is Cat still alive?

Perhaps Nino needs her as leverage if he’s going to get out of the city.

He’s in for a rude awakening. Nino Ricci isn’t escaping, nor will he survive for long once I get my hands on him.
