So she simply nodded.

Cash watchedher eat the scrambled eggs he’d made. Nobody had appreciated his oatmeal effort yesterday, so today he decided to go for eggs. Still soft, but maybe a bit more tasty. All right, so he hadn’t enjoyed the oatmeal that much himself.

He’d checked her throat before she’d eaten, not liking that it was looking rather red and swollen. He sent a message off to Hack.

It was time to get someone to look at it properly.

For some reason, he took great satisfaction from watching her eat something that he had prepared for her. She also sipped slowly on her warm honey drink.

Honestly, waking up to her touching him, her hand on his dick, had been one of the best mornings that he could remember.

The only issue was that he hadn’t been certain she was even awake when she was touching him. When she’d hidden away, he’d felt certain she’d been scared at finding him in her bed.

He’d never imagined that her reaction was because she’d been worried he’d felt violated.

Insane.

He was tidying up by the sink while she brushed her teeth, when Ralen stepped up beside him.

“I think we’re going to have to leave soon.”

“What do you mean? Why would we leave?” Cash asked. “We still don’t know anything about these people that went after them in the airport. Or Monroe’s husband. We don’t know if anyone is going to come after them again. You can’t leave them here without protection.”

“You haven’t forgotten that we don’t actually work for Ink, right? This isn’t our job. We have a real job, and apparently, Dante is growing more and more concerned about Ortega. Remember, if he isn’t found soon, Dante is threatening to come to the States and find him himself.”

He was still talking about that?

“Alejandro sent men to his last known location to see what they could find,” Ralen said. “So far, they’ve come up withnothing, and we both know that Alejandro’s men are good at what they do.”

Yeah, but Ortega was better. If he wanted to stay hidden, he could.

Then again, what if he was actually hurt?

Shit.

“Do you think Dante’s going to send us there? What can we do that Alejandro’s men couldn’t? How are we supposed to find Ortega if he’s hidden himself away?”

“I don’t know, man, but he likes us. I’m going to try ringing and messaging him again. I’ve got an email address for him from a while ago as well. I’ve sent another message telling him that it’s urgent that he gets in contact.”

Cash nodded.

The last thing he really wanted to do was leave. Unfortunately, though, Ralen wasn’t wrong. This wasn’t his actual job, as much as he wished that taking care of Addie could be his job.

It couldn’t.

And she would soon be going back to her much safer life.

Without him.

Something was wrong with Cash.

He was frowning and pensive. She’d come out of the bathroom after brushing her teeth to find him sitting on the bed and staring at the wall.

Should she ask him if he was all right? But what if he didn’t want to tell her? Was that too invasive? Would he see it as her being nosy?

But what if she didn’t ask? Then he’d think she didn’t care. She definitely cared.
