“I walked right into that one, didn’t I? I did enjoy it though. It was delicious.”

“I’m glad you think so, princesa.”

“I don’t know how I can ever thank you enough. I was starving.”

“Oh, I can think of a few ways you can thank me, but I’ll settle for a kiss for now.”

She smiled and walked over to where I was sitting in the chair. She placed her hands on the arms of the chair and leaned in close. “I’m nothing if not accommodating to someone’s needs,” she whispered. “Bésame, Vera.”

Holy shit I was in trouble with that one. I did exactly as I was told and kissed her, letting it consume me. I tasted the hint of vanilla on her lip gloss and my knees threatened to give out.

“Hey, Cara— Oh shit, sorry. I didn’t know you were busy.”

We both jumped at the sound of Eloise’s voice, and Cara groaned with irritation. Eloise’s face said she wasn’t sorry at all, with a smirk stretching wide. Cara gave her a look that had Eloise throwing her hands up in surrender and backing out of the office.

Cara groaned, standing up and fixing her skirt. “I’m sorry about that. I better get back to work.”

I stood up and grabbed her waist, leaning in to kiss her nose. “Don’t be sorry, princesa. It was fun. I’ll let you get back to work, but please eat the rest of your lunch before it gets cold.”

She nodded and shooed me out of her office, annoyed that I had to return to work instead of dragging her home to finish what she’d started.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

CARA

“I don’t know what to wear?!” I whined as I opened the door to my best friend. I’d called Blair in a panic and forced her to rush over to help me.

“Babe, calm down. That’s why I’m here.”

We headed to my room where her eyes widened at the tornado that had ensued. Clothes were thrown haphazardly everywhere.

“Okay, I’m a little scared of you right now. Why are you freaking out? You guys have been dating for a while, right? Why are you so nervous? Are you proposing or something?!” she gasped and started jumping up and down.

I groaned. I'd forgotten about the fact that my friends didn’t know it was fake. Well, itwasfake, but I had more important things to focus on than my lie.

I rolled my eyes. “Calm, down, B. No, I’m not proposing. And I’m not freaking out, I just, I want to look nice, okay? Nothing is feeling right to me. I think my period’s coming soon.” There. None of that was a lie. I did feel like I was getting my period soon, and I did want to look nice for Vera, even though she’s seen me in almost everything.

“Okay, okay. Sorry. Let’s see what we’re working with.”

I walked over to the closet and picked a few things out. A few pairs of jeans, shorts, and dresses. Blair said no to them all. “You’re picking things that are safe and comfortable. Here, let me have a look.”

“Well, I don’t want to be uncomfortable, Blair. Why can’t I just wear a simple dress? That’s my signature style.”

“Exactly,” she shouted from the closet. “You called me over here because you don’t want to wear your usual things, but you don’t know what you want. Oh! But I do.”

She stepped out of the closet with an outfit I hadn’t worn since I was in college. A silver skirt and halter top set. The top showed way too much cleavage and the skirt barely covered my ass.

“Seriously? I haven’t worn that since college.”

She nodded. “Yes. Just try it on.”

I took a long breath before taking the outfit and changing. Blair and I were best friends and had seen everything both of us had, so changing in front of each other was nothing.

When I adjusted the top, she gasped. “Oh my god!”

“What?” I asked curiously, looking down at the outfit. “It still fits, I guess.”

“Fuck yes it fits! She is going to die!”
