I let out a laugh and shook my head.“I didn't quit. They very nicely asked me to leave.”

Eve showed up with a plate of fresh fruit and a cappuccino for me.“Why did they get rid of you?You did an excellent job of looking after Stefan.”

That made me laugh.

Hard.

“Maybe a little too well.He refused to go back to the hospital. So, I might have—” I moved my head from side to side, “borrowed a few things so I could deal with him.”

Eve pulled out a chair and sat down without breaking eye contact.“Okay, what?Explain that, please.”

So I did.I told them all about how I took IV’s and antibiotics, and other things, so I could take proper care of Stefan. When I was done, they both stared at me.Mouths open.

Unblinking.

It was Giselle who finally broke the silence.“Are you telling me—” she swallowed and squinted at me, “that Stefan was so freaking stubborn that he got you fired?”Her voice was not quiet.I saw the men's heads turn toward the house.

“Umm, well, I mean...”I tried to think of a better way to put it.But Giselle had pretty much described exactly what had happened.

“Are you freaking kidding me?”

Oh, boy.

I was guessing that Giselle's blood pressure was currently not great.

“Why are you yelling at Francesca?”Stefan stormed inside with a murderous look on his face.

Giselle's head swiveled right to him.“Why are you so stupid?”

Oh, boy.

Yeah, Giselle was ticked right off.

“Excuse me?”Stefan stopped in his tracks and glared at Giselle.Carlo and Nick walked in as well and flanked him.

Good grief.

Each of those men on their own were freaking hot.

But when you saw them standing all together—it was enough to make my lady parts burst into flame.

“Giselle, what's going on?”Carlo asked with a look of concern on his face.He walked cautiously toward her like he was approaching a rabid animal or something.

“What's going on?What's going on is that Stefan got Francesca canned from the hospital because he was a freaking idiot!”

Oh, boy.

She was fuming mad at Stefan.

“You need to—” Carlo set his hands on her shoulders.“You need to—” he started saying before she yelled at him, too.

“Don't tell me to settle down or anything else you were going to say!Stefan almost died in our stables…” Her voice cracked, and tears started falling down her cheeks.“And then he got so freaking sick,” she sobbed and wiped under her eyes with her fingers, “and refused to go to the hospital.”

Yikes.

Giselle was completely losing it.

“And then Francesca had to save his life—again—by stealing crap from the hospital.”She shrugged off Carlo's hands and gave him a scathing look.“That's what's up, Carlo.”
