The moment we arrive at the hospital, there are people everywhere asking questions, wanting my medical history, but all I want is an update on Sutton.
“Can you tell me about the woman they brought in from the explosion?”I ask a nurse, removing my mask as they wheel Stone and I through the emergency room to a cubical.
She shakes her head, “I don’t know about her condition, but they did rush her through to the burn unit for assessment.”
“Was it bad? Were you able to see if she was alive and breathing?”I keep questioning her.
“I’m not sure, sir, but I can have a doctor or someone on staff come by and speak with you while we tend to your wounds.”
They put Stone and me in rooms next to one another, and I watch as Raegan rushes by looking for her man. Before she completely passes by, she notices me and halts her movement.
“Are you okay?”she asks coming in and scans me from head to toe like anything has changed since the ride over here.
I shake my head, “I need to find out about Sutton.”
“I’m headed to see if Mom knows anything after I check on you and Kane,” she tells me.“Do you need anything?”
“Just info on my girl,” I say.
She nods in understanding.
“As soon as I find something out, you’ll be the first to know.”She pats my soot covered boot then heads out next door to Stone.I can hear muffled conversation but nothing that I can make out.
As I watch the clock above the door, every minute that ticks by feels like years. The doctors and nurses come in and out to treat my minor burns.None of them has any word on what is happening with Sutton.Stone and I are taken down for scans to make sure we didn’t damage anything internally while we inhaled all the fumes from the smoke, not to mention whatever accelerant might have been used to cause the house to blow the fuck up.
“Put us in the same room,” Stone tells the guys wheeling us in our chairs back from the scans.
“Sir, I think we have to?—”
“I wasn’t asking,” he commands.
They do as Stone commands and when we enter his cubical, the room is full of our brothers waiting there along with Raegan.
“What’d they say?”Raegan hops up off the bed and comes over to Stone’s side.
“They’ll come tell us once the doctor looks her over,” he informs her.
“What the fuck happened?”Reaper asks once he closes the sliding glass door, sealing us all in.
“The fucking house exploded,” I grit out, running my fingers through my short hair.
“We were out on the porch talking when it blew up.I’d just watched Sutton go inside not even two minutes before,” Raegan tells the group. Her voice is shaky as Riot places a hand on her shoulder for comfort. She looks over to me, “Melissa will be here soon with an update. She wanted to consult with the doctors working on Sutton before she came down.”
“Fuck, man, was this targeted or natural?”Brass asks, popping his knuckles.
“I’ve got Turner coming by after he and the fire marshal take a look at the house,” Stone says.“I’m not ruling anything out until I see a report.”
“There was a stench inside the house, that I’m sure.No way an oven or curling iron accidentally left on did this kinda damage,” I say.
“Who do you have as possible suspects?”Bull asks.“We know the Vipers aren’t making the list,” he leans on a whisper.
“Let’s just wait until we know more,” Stone tells the room.“We’re running high from what happened and with something like this we need level heads, not half-ass assumptions.”
Another hour goes by of waiting and all I can do is watch the fucking clock as conversation continues around the room, but I don’t engage.I can’t.All I can think about is my green-eyed angel that’s in this hospital somewhere.
The door to the cubical finally slides open and Melissa comes in.Her face doesn’t mask her devastation. My heart drops to the bottom of my stomach.
“Just say it,” I growl and stand from my chair.
