He started to remove his pads. “You’re not heading back to speak to Emerson?”

“Nah, she’s in bed already. She has her early class tomorrow. I spoke to her before we went on.”

I realized I hadn’t actually checked my phone because I assumed she wouldn’t be watching, and I kind of hoped she hadn’t been after Freddie’s reaction. I’d never given a shit about getting into fights before, because aside from my parents, there wasn’t anyone watching who would have really cared about me being punched, without understanding it wasn’t part of the game. The thought of Emerson watching that fight gripped my insides slightly.

As I got up to reach into my locker, Coach Campbell walked in and the room fell silent. He stood there waiting, his arms crossed until everyone turned to face him, those standing took a seat on the benches.

“Well, that was a complete shit show; a disgraceful display of sportsmanship. You are an elite team of players and I expect you to conduct yourself as such. I don’t give a fuck what the other teams do or how they behave. You don’t behave like that.” He aggressively pointed his fingers at us. “You’re lucky you pulled it back for a win or you can bet your asses you’d be getting benched. Get dressed and be on the bus in fifteen. Anyone late can make their own way back. And if you think you’re all going partying tonight, you can think the fuck again.”

He didn’t wait for a reaction before marching out.

Everyone started stripping out of their gear, rushing to get in the showers, no one wanting to piss Coach off further.

“Looks like we’ll be drinking in our rooms then,” Felix muttered dryly.

The tough love worked. We won the next game three – nil, with no fighting, and after four nights away from Emerson, I’d never been more desperate to get back home.

She picked up her phone on the third ring.

“Hi, baby.”

Even though I’d spoken to her several times every day, her voice was still like a warm balm the first time I heard it, soothing away my aches and pains, easing my heart. And I fucking lived for the times she called mebaby.

“Hey, sweetheart, how’s your day been?”

“Not bad, how’s yours? How’s your face?”

“It’s been okay, but it’ll get better the second this plane takes off and lands in New York and I’m with you. I’ll be back in three hours. Where are you going to be waiting? My place or yours?”

She laughed. “I’ll be at my place.”

“Okay, Luck. I can’t fucking wait to see you. I’ll be there soon.” I dropped my voice in case anyone could hear me. “And you better be naked, because there won’t be time to remove your clothes before I rip them off.”

Her responding groan made my pants very tight. Fuck, four nights away from her was definitely too long.

“Okay, babe, see you soon.”

Three hours later, my car pulled up outside her apartment. I hopped out and buzzed her door.

“Thanks, Ralph. I’ll call you in the morning.” I tapped on the roof and he drove off.

After the world’s slowest elevator journey, I reached her floor and I jogged down the hallway to her door, finding it ajar. Iwalked in, dumping my bag on the floor, my mouth drying up at the sight in front of me.

I kicked the door shut behind me without moving my gaze from her. My hand was already on my tie, loosening it, then undoing the top button of my shirt.

“Holy fuck. That’s better than naked.”

She was standing in nothing but my jersey, and even though she was drowning in it, the length of her bare, golden legs meant it only just covered her ass and the tops of her thighs.

She was a sight to behold, and the ache I’d had in my balls the past four days dialed up to DEFCON One levels.

“Turn around.” I was so amped up, my voice was more of a growl.

I watched her slowly spin, my name appearing on her back as she did. My dick hardened with every second she stood in front of me, constricting itself in my pants until it was almost unbearably painful.

“Lift it up.”

And she did. The little vixen was bare underneath, just like I’d ordered, and I could see her pussy glistening, ready and desperate for my touch.
