“Hack said to rest your foot.”
“I don’t think he meant that you had to carry me everywhere.”
“I want to.”
Oh. That was sweet.
Well, if he wanted to carry her around, then who was she to argue? He set her down on the sofa and grabbed a cushion for the coffee table, putting her foot on it.
“Stay there.”
“Sure.”
He eyed her seriously. “I mean it.”
“Daddy, why would I move?”
He grunted. “I’m going to get Mr. Fluffy.”
“You got it! I will stay right here.”
Only what if she didn’t stay right here . . . then maybe she could hide and she wouldn’t get her spanking, right?
Hmm. Where could she hide that she wouldn’t have to walk far?
Behind the back of the sofa! Getting up, she limped around behind the couch and lay down.
See? Her foot wasn’t that bad. All this fuss over nothing. It wasn’t the best hiding spot. If Spike looked behind the sofa he’d easily see her.
But it was the best she could do on short notice.
If this was what it took to get out of that spanking . . . well, she was prepared to lie here all night.
Or until she had to pee.
Whatever came first.
Also, she kind of needed Chompers. And her dinosaur pajamas. Actually, she was really starting to regret her choices right now.
But it was too late to move as Spike walked inside carrying Mr. Fluffy.
There was silence as he stood there. She could see his boots on the other side of the sofa. Then, with a sigh, he put Mr. Fluffy down.
“Where the hell is she?”
Mr. Fluffy lay on his belly and stared straight at her. Well, she could have sworn that he winked at her, then he rolled without giving her away.
She’d always known that Mr. Fluffy was on her side.
Such a loyal puppy.
Woof, woof.
What was that? What was he barking at? Mr. Fluffy didn’t really bark. Barking took energy. It was something that Mr. Fluffy lacked, especially now that he was eating cardboard food.
Woof, woof.
“Yeah, what I thought.”
