I grimaced, the second hand high from Ollie’s joint making it all seem much more ridiculous.
“Sorry.” I cringed.
Serina tucked her foot beneath her, settling on the opposite side of the couch and smirked. She extended her palm where two pain relievers waited. I smiled in thanks, popping them in and washing them down with scalding tea.
“You guys are wild.”
“You have no idea,” I sighed, slouching in the corner. She blushed and toyed with the hem of her shirt-not hers. It was one of Jack’s. She spent most days with him, but this was the only other time since the AEP party that she spent the night. I studied her; lips slightly puffy, eyes bright and cheeks pink.
My jaw dropped.
“Did you and Jack-”
“Kiss,” she interrupted. “Just kissed.”
My heart skipped, beaming at her. She shook her head, her messy top-knot bouncing. “I kissed him,” she corrected, blushing again.
I leaned forward- a shot of pain from my core had me wincing and reclining. She giggled. I rolled my eyes.
“Ignore me, tell me about this kiss.”
She chewed her lip and twisted the hem of her tee. “He was upset. He worries about Ollie.”
“Don’t we all?” I muttered.
She huffed a laugh. “Yea, well, he relaxed a little after a joint and then you two…”
I groaned, covering my face with my hand. “God, that’s embarrassing.”
She giggled. “It’s not.” I leveled an unbelieving look at her. She waved me off. “Nothing we haven’t heard from you two already.”
That helped absolutely nothing. I snatched a throw blanket and draped it over my head surrounded by the sound of her giggles.
“You were telling me about your kiss, not reminding me how obnoxious we were.”
“I’m getting there,” she continued. I pulled the blanket down to sip more tea despite my burnt tongue. “He said something I couldn’t ignore.” She shifted, hugging her knees to her chest and cupped her mug while her eyes drifted inward. “He mumbled it, but he said it’d been too long since he got railed.”
I choked, hot tea scorching up my nose.
“Fucking Jack.” I coughed, laughing through the burn.
“Right?” She snorted. “So, I asked him when the last time was and he- he asked me if I’d heard about him. I didn’t know what he meant.”
I cocked my head. Jack was many things: ridiculous, excessive, sexual, outspoken and most of all unpredictable. I dug my toes into the couch.
“Heard about what?”
The hem of her tee was hopelessly stretched out. “He- well, you know he likes girls and guys… sometimes at the same time.”
I raised a brow. “And that’s bad?”
“No,” she replied instantly, cheeks pink. “Not at all, but I guess he thought it would turn me off.”
“Ah,” I sighed. Made sense- his relationships never lasted. Many couldn’t handle the jealousy or couldn’t hold his attention. More often than not, they didn’t want anyone to know.
“So, I kissed him,” she admitted. “And he wouldn’t do more.”
“What- why?” I gasped.
