“I still don’t know how I feel about that.”

“You didn’t seem to have a problem with it a second ago,” I point out.

“Yeah, well, I can’t be held accountable for what I allow when I’m trying to come.”

“You don’t want to be my baby?”

She bites back a grin. “You’re ridiculous.”

I notice it’s not ano. That realization is enough to have me beaming back at her.

“When do you get back tomorrow?” she asks.

“I should be back before you get out of class.”

“Mm. Good.”

“Wow, someone really misses me.”

“Maybe I just miss your cock.”

“I can definitively say that it misses you too.” I frown then, remembering everything I said to her while we got off together. “Do you really…want more?”

She swallows thickly. “I think so.”

“Fuck, Abby. You would wait until I’m a thousand miles away to tell me that.”

“Gives you more incentive to hurry back.”

“Don’t tempt me. I’ll find a red-eye tonight.”

She laughs then, the sound morphing into a yawn. “I’m too worn-out now, anyway.”

“Are you in my bed?”

“I’m in mine.”

“Go sleep in mine,” I tell her. “I like the idea of you in my sheets while I’m gone.”

“Someone’s bossy.”

“Are you saying you won’t?”

“We’ll see,” she says cryptically, but the way she’s smiling lets me know she’s absolutely going to do it. Her gaze softens then, looking slightly vulnerable. “I do, you know. Miss you.”

My heart does something funny, like a small piece of it rips off and flies toward home to be with her. “I miss you too.”

“Then hurry back tomorrow so you can see me.”

“I’ll be there as soon as I can.”

“Good. Now go to sleep.”

I chuckle. “Yes, lover.”

“Yeah, that’s never going to fly.”

I grin as I blow her a kiss, and she just rolls her eyes before telling me good night and hanging up the phone. I feel lighter than I have in days, and I realize the last thing on my mind is tonight’s game, or even hockey at all. My thoughts are too preoccupied with Abby to even consider how much or how little I got to play. Almost like my problems feel far away whenever she’s around.
