“I’m going to Lost Wheelers MC and see if I can talk to my mother. At least—shit, verify if she’s still alive, I guess.”

And why the hell did I hear myself saying to the man I was determined never to forgive,

“I’ll come with you.”

His dark eyebrows raised up almost to his hairline, and I could see his fingers twitching, like he was having to hold himself back from taking me in his arms again. His dark eyes gleamed from that tremendously ugly face, but there was something magnetic about thelookhe gave me.

“Not a chance in hell. It’s too dangerous.”

“You might need someone to help you talk to people,” I protested. “You aren’t good at sweet-talking.”

“It’s going to be in hostile territory,” Abraham said. “The Wheelers MC and Legends MC do not get along, and haven’t since my father’s day. I wouldn’t put you in danger like that.”

“Well, how are you going to get through to your mother?” I asked.

He grimaced.

“I’m not going to wear my cut. Asparagus has given me a good idea of where the clubhouse is. We’ll see if I can make it there without their boys trying to fuck me up.”

“I don’t like the sound of that,” I said. “I’m coming along. After all, it wasmyidea.”

His dark brows drew together, and I remembered how I had tried to convince myself that he was the world’s ugliest man, so why did I care so much? But there was something so striking and compelling about his face, when he wanted to, he could come alive, his eyes burning with an inner fire.

“Your mother might not havewantedto leave,” I said hopefully.

Abraham shook his head like he couldn’t believe that.

“Either way, I should have done this decades ago,” he said. “You were right about that.”

After some time arguing back and forth, Abraham agreed that I could go if I took Mac and Fizz along with me and we stayed at a rest area just before the boundary line between MCs. He would be the only one going in to Wheelers territory.

When it was time to go, they took off their cuts, Fizz complaining that he felt naked without it, and we headed down the road in the truck.

The Bonemangler had a lot of territory.

I found myself next to him, my thigh burning where it was pressed against his, and Iwondered.

Could I ever trust this man again?

He’d knelt in front of me, his knees popping like pistons, and asked for a second chance.

He’d done a lot to prove that he wasn’t the same man who had said those hurtful words.

But why would I stay when I didn’t 100% trust him? After making sure he got safely out of Wheelers territory, that was it.I would leave and after a few months I’d forget all about him. There were plenty of men on Hinge.

You didn’t stay with a bastard just because he had a big cock and could fuck you twenty ways to Sunday.

It wasn’t until we had driven for hours that Abraham pulled the truck off the road at a cute, rustic rust area with lots of families having a picnic lunch in the unseasonably nice February weather.

We were at the end of Legends MC territory.

“Stay here,” Abraham said, pinching my chin gently, his rough fingers almost a caress.

“All right,” I said.

“Don’t draw any attention to yourself.”
