"Because I am usually able to control my temper. However, they do not trouble me. They are a natural part of me. But, seeing you riding about this country—where danger can lurk behind every rock—and parading yourself openly in a bright-blue dress, caused a rage to rise up in me—one I have not felt in a great many snows."
"Oh? I am sorry to have caused this."
He shrugged.
"But, please tell me why these little tiny flashes of light are known as your power?"
He didn't answer at once. Indeed, he wasn't certain how to answer her question, but after a time he said, "These are my power because, if I can learn to control them, the Creator can better work His healing powers through me. But therein lies the problem."
"I don't understand. What problem?"
Again, he hesitated to say more. But, aware she was silently awaiting his answer, he explained, "The difficulty is this: I do not know how to control them. When I try to use the tiny energy strikes, nothing happens. And, if I cannot learn to exercise what is my talent, my power to help people will be impotent, and this is because the Creator can only work through me by using the ability He has gifted me."
"Oh," was all she said. But, then, as though with inspiration, she asked, "Couldn't a medicine man help you to utilize this power?"
"Several have tried," he explained. "Even my father has dedicated himself to try to help me understand this gift. But, I have never learned. Maybe I never will."
"Yes, you will. I know you will. Tell me, have you ever employed this gift from the Creator?"
"Once," he replied. "Within my memory is a time when I was very young and wished to go hunting with my father. But, I was not allowed to go because I could barely walk and my father did not wish to carry me or put me into danger. This next part I barely remember, but I have been told I became so angry at being left behind, I caused lightning to strike my father's hunting party. No one was hurt. The lightning did no more than touch the ground, where it left a jagged hole upon the earth. But, this part I am about to tell you I do remember, and I recall it well: I watched the lightning strike the ground, and I remember feeling glad at first because I thought I would get my way. But, when I realized I could have hurt someone in my father's party, I began to cry. And so, to this day, I have never been able to use my power again, not even to help people."
"Oh," was all she replied. "If I could, I would help you to gain control of this, but I have no understanding of how to do it."
"It is not your problem."
"I beg to disagree," she said, her voice a little over a whisper. "You have taken on my problems; why shouldn't I then look upon your own worries as if they are mine, too?"
He simply drew her in toward him, as though they weren't already close enough. "It was not my intention to burden you with my troubles."
"I know," she said, "and yet, I am glad you have. Don't you realize, I want to know every little thing about you? I don't care if it's good or bad. I simply want to know it all."
"And, so you will, I am certain," he said. "But, perhaps we should take our time learning about each other so it will require our entire lives to discover it all."
"Yes, I like your words."
He looked up at her and smiled as his hands came up to gently massage her breasts. He said, "At this moment, all I want, all I need, is more loving from you."
She grinned down at him and whispered, "I'm not stopping you."
"Is it true?" he asked, then laughed. "Are you genuinely doing as I would like you to do, and without talking back to me?"
Her smile at him was as beautiful and as bright as a summer's day when she whispered, "At least this once, my darling."
He chuckled, shook his head, then wrapped his arms around her while he proceeded to show her exactly how much he loved her. Indeed, it wasn't until the very next morning before they at last rejoined the others….
