“Morning, Storm.” I rub his muzzle as he neighs. “Ready for a good day of rides?”

He nods again. I like to think that he can understand me. He’s one of the best horses we have.

“I’ll be back to see you later, okay? Make sure you keep everyone else in line.”

He goes back to chomping on the hay as I check on the other horses. All of the stalls are clean—just how I like it. It’s good to have people working for me that I trust to help me.

I grab my hat off the desk before strolling to the main lodge. A few guests are already out and about. The sun is peeking out from behind the mountains as I stuff my hands in my pockets, breathing in the cool morning air. I’ll savor it before it gets hot as hell today.

Heading into the lodge through the kitchen, I grab a cup of coffee before going to the front desk. Where I know Joey will be.

Fuck. I shouldn’t have kissed her. Ireallyshouldn’t have jacked off to the thought of her on her knees for me.

But it was too damn tempting. She’s too damn tempting. It’s going to be hard to resist her. I sip my coffee as I stuff my free hand into my pocket and head toward the front desk.

Joey’s back is to me and I allow myself a minute—only a minute—to appreciate how sexy she is.

That long brown hair of hers falls halfway down her back. Her jean skirt clings to her hips with her long legs leading down to her cowboy boots.

When did I start falling for my best friend’s daughter?

I don’t know, but she really is the most beautiful woman in the world.

I clear my throat, walking into the lobby. “Morning.”

Her head turns to find me, a smile lighting up her face. “Morning, Sam. I’m glad you’re here.”

“Is that right?” I rest my elbows on the hardwood of the front desk.

“I have something for you.” She pulls a Christmas tin out. “These are for you.”

“What are they?”

I tug the lid off, the sweet smell of cookies filling my senses.

“A thank you for helping me out the other day.”

“You didn’t have to do this, darlin’.”

“It’s the least I could do. Max helped me with them. They’re his favorite—peanut butter with a chocolate kiss.”

“They smell delicious.”

“Well, help yourself.” Joey pushes the tin closer.

I snag a cookie and tear into it. “Fuck. These are delicious.”

“You know what they say…” Joey teases.

“What do they say?” I ask, swallowing the bite.

“If you give a cowboy a cookie…”

I cock my eyebrow at her. “I’ll want a glass of milk?”

“I can give you more than a glass of milk, Sam.”

I finish off the cookie, needing something to do with my mouth so I don’t say anything I’ll regret. Like…I want her like she wants me.
