“What did you do?” I whisper as a few tears fall, and Psycho replies, “He got himself shot then flung off his bike, which isn’t the smartest of moves considering the idiot is the only doctor here.”

I look over his chest, and true fear hits me when I see the wound is in his left pec.

“Miles I-I can’t, I…”

He cuts me off as he grips my cut and pulls me down, placing his lips against mine which instantly tingle before he chokes, “Grab the scalpel, buttercup…”

Oh my god, this cannot be happening.

“Clark,” Psycho says, and I look away from my husband and up at the man. His kind light brown eyes soften seeing my fear and he says, “Trick said you have all the knowledge as a trauma nurse, just not the qualifications. Crash can’t get a hold of your friend. Our brother Medic is back at Rose Meadows, as is Fury, who took training. You are the only one, darling…”

This really is happening.

Oh crap, crap, crap.

I look back at my husband, who blinks slowly then grunts in pain, and I take a shuddered breath, then choke, “I need to scrub.”

“That’s my girl,” Miles chokes, “When you’re ready I need you to make a small incision before digging into my pec, I think the bullet just hit muscle.”

Oh, triple crap.

“You-you’ve got this, baby,” he rasps but I just shake my head and mutter, “Tell my heart that,” before I press a kiss to his lips then rush over to the sink.

I can do this, right?

“You did well, sweetheart,” Cage says as he sits beside Miles, and I curl further up into my husband’s body and squeeze my eyes tight as a few tears fall, my hands still shaking from what I had to do.

Three hours, that is how long he’s been asleep, three hours since I dug a bullet out of his muscle tissue then stitched him back up again, three hours since I’ve gone numb, my mind not able to comprehend anything.

Drew has Willow much to my brother's chagrin, my friend still hasn’t called my brother or me back, only explaining by text that she’s back on a night shift and asked if everything is alright. I didn’t reply and neither did Crash. Lavender is currently making waves about how I should be banned from the clubhouse for hitting her unprovoked.

Hah, unprovoked my ass, and to be honest, if the brothers listen yet again where she is concerned, they will just prove I never should trust them again.

“Get some sleep, Clark. I know you’ve had a night shift, and Trick is alright. His vitals are good. Cage and I will stay and monitor him,” I hear Lick say behind me, and I nod slightly before squeezing my eyes tighter, doing as I’m told because I’m exhausted.

Work.

Feeling like I’m failing Willow by not being there for her this morning.

Miles getting shot.

Lavender’s continuous screams about needing to seeherman.

The pregnancy test…

Everything seems to drown me at once, and I allow myself to drift off to sleep, fruitless dreams waiting for me.

Chapter 24

Trick

I gently run my fingers through my daughter's hair as she sleeps against my side, her head lying on my chest, while I caress my lips against my wife’s forehead lying on my other side. Even though my chest is aching like a bitch with their weight, I don’t react, needing to keep my girls close.

Clark has been asleep for four hours according to Cage, and she needs it, and not just because she had her first graveyard shift last night…

Cage mentioned she fell asleep ten minutes before I woke up in excruciating pain, while Willow came in an hour ago crying because she wanted her mama and me after she overheard Drew speaking on the phone to Cage about my condition. My little girl is bright, and it didn’t take her long to figure out I was the one hurt.
