“You’re having my baby. My baby. I’m going to be a dad.”

“And an excellent one.” I ran my fingers through his hair.

“Wow. He spiraled faster than I thought he would.” I heard a voice from the stairs.

Wes and I looked up at Zoey sitting on the stairs, eating popcorn.

“How long have you been there?” I cocked my head.

“Long enough to know Wes doesn’t understand how a pregnancy test works.” She laughed.

“In my defense, no one prepares you for this.” Wes pointed at her.

She popped another piece of popcorn in her mouth and got up from the step.

“Actually, they do. It’s called health class. So how long before you hit up the bookstore and buy every parenting book they have and baby-proof a house that doesn’t need baby-proofing for at least six months?”

“I’d say we start tomorrow,” Wes said.

“See? I told you he’d lose his mind.” Zoey smiled.

“I’m still in shock.” Wes threw his arms out to the side.

Zoey walked up to him and patted his chest. “You’ll be okay, Daddy.”

I couldn’t sleep. Not that I expected to after hearing the news. I was lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, while Sam slept beside me, her head resting on my chest. She was pregnant with my child. A baby. An actual human being who would rely on me for everything. Then memories of my father crept up, and the way he used to kneel beside my bed every night and ask me what my favorite part of my day had been. The way he’d leave work early for my little league games, and help me with my homework when I couldn’t figure it out.

I only had eight years with him. But I’d learned a lot in the short time we had together. I just didn’t know it because my mind was corrupted by my grandparents after my parents’ death. A baby. The heir to Castile Properties. The thought excited me, but terrified me at the same time.

Sam stirred, and my arm around her tightened. I was already protective of her, and now, even more so. My family of three would soon turn into a family of four. With a teenager and a baby in the house, things were about to get very interesting.

I strolled into my office the following morning with a grin on my face.

“Good morning, Rose.”

“Good morning, Wes. You seem in a great mood this morning.”

“I am.” I smiled. “Have Finn come down to my office.”

“Will do.” She smiled.

I set my briefcase down and took a seat behind my desk.

“What’s up?” Finn walked in and shut the door.

“Sam’s pregnant.” I smiled.

“Shut up! Seriously?” He grinned.

“She told me last night. I can’t believe that I’m going to be a father.”

“That’s awesome, Wes.” He walked over. I stood, and we hugged.
