“Like you wore that dress knowing I’d be looking. Like you smiled in that nigga’s face, waiting for a reaction from me. Likeyou ain’t scared of this life… even though you should be. And like you don’t understand what kind of attention you’re playing with.”

Her breathing shifted, but she didn’t back up or fold.

“And you…” she pressed her finger into my chest gently. “You act like you don’t want me… but you haven’t looked away all night.”

I didn’t deny it.

“Go inside, Ajori.”

“Why?”

My voice came out rougher. “Because I’m running out of reasons to keep my hands to myself,” I admitted.

Ajori stepped back slowly, sporting that same smirk on her lips like she knew exactly what she just did to me.

“Goodnight,Damari.”

As she walked away, I cursed under my breath.

I’d been around danger my whole life, but nothing about her felt predictable… and that made her the most dangerous thing in the room.
